@DUFFMAN5 I was doing well but had some hand surgery that has me in a cast at present. Unless I go through a load of Steam 2-3hr point & clicks when I'm recovered enough I have a feeling I'll be lucky to reach 40/52. Still, when I started this I genuinely thought I wouldn't even get 25 done.

    @Doomspoon
I know what you mean re the numbers mate. I can't imagine a time I would hit anywhere near 52 games, pretty impressed with the 29 in 2015!

I tend to only play xbox/ps4 (80% in Xbox favour) so no handhelds/switch, I also do not tend to play "indy" or point and click too much, which you can usually skip through pdq.

Also I tend to put about 1000 hours per year into whatever Gears I am playing. Come Sept this year it will be Gears 5...52 games 2020 (2019 joint so far) could be my lowest yet.

I tend to finish with similar results each year (30-35). I go through gaming droughts where I spend my time fiddling with other stuff etc (currently fiddling with some volunteer subtitling which is time consuming). On the plus side this thread does encourage me to play through some of the shorter games every now and then. Most of my games tend to be lengthier stuff like Rpgs which obviously makes things harder. And my irritating habit of switching from something I am making good progress in to something else.

@DUFFMAN5 I've had the cast taken off my hand, still have a dressing on at present but can manage short sessions with a joypad, mouse is less uncomfortable. I played my nephew at CTR on Friday and my hand was bloody sore afterwards so I still need to keep things tame a while. I have a few of the Telltale games on various platforms so thinking of going through Tales from the Borderlands and Batman over the next week or so.

I have the stitches out on Friday so won't have a stupid dressing in the way but have to sleep with a splint on my hand for a few months and expect some soreness in the finger. My hand exercises involve trying to make a fist and pressing the thumb to each finger in turn so it's not that dissimilar to holding a joypad.

I just finished the last boss fight and a few trophies to get the platinum on it tonight, despite still recovering from hand surgery. It was annoying me that it was so close to being finished that I had to try and do so.

I didn't play the original version on the PS1 so it was new to me. It was largely easy apart from trying to get a couple of trophies which required a few replays of levels. I was maybe expecting something that might have been as challenging as some of the Mario games. Still, it was quite fun. I've got the two sequels to play through at some point.

I was expecting it to be a bit more like Doom 3 after reading somewhere it had horror leanings. It hasn't aged well, it felt a bit like an N64 game. Possibly the whole Native American thing but it felt like a Turok game mixed with some Duke Nukem 3D. much like those games I spent a lot of time going in circles missing switches or doorways that weren't immediately obvious to me. The weapons weren't too brilliant either. The way you can respawn after death and acquire health ahead of your respawning was an interesting mechanic at least.

Absolutely brilliant campaign and I loved all 13-14 hours in the world.Lots of Lore for fanatics like me. Head and shoulders over Gears 4 campaign. The highest praise I can give is that it can sit along side the original trilogy. I have high hopes for the last chapter in the "new" trilogy.

I got to two brothers and put it down, it's just not doing enough for me to remain engaged.

Back to Control now which I started on Sunday and seems very enjoyable so far...

    #27 Creature In The Well
I probably wouldn't rate this as high if it wasn't part of Game Pass (and an easy pick up). Fun little bullet-hell-come-pinball game with a curious story and a great art style. I recommend it to anyone who can just jump in like I did. 7/10

    #28 The Messenger: Picnic Panic
A couple of extra levels added onto an already great game for free? I'm not complaining.

    #29 Gorogoa
This game reminds me of the board game Dixit. It's a puzzle game comprised of weird abstract art that you can shuffle around a 4 x 4 board to recombine panels of images. Puzzles could be a little "keep trying until you accidentally figure it out" but I enjoyed it all the same. There's nothing else really like it, either. 7/10

    #30 Untitled Goose Game
I've been exited about this since trailer 1. My only problem with this game is that I want more of it. 8/10

#31 The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Bit of a nostalgia trip for me on this. I don't think I'd ever actually completed the original game boy version now that I've gotten through this one.

I'll always remember it fondly, and it remains a favourite, but the puzzle logic in this varies wildy between inscrutible nonsense and done-in-a-second simplicity.

Couldn't give a toss about the dungeon builder addition and the performance is so bizzarely on and off. Not Nintendo's best work on a remaster/remake but I'll still give it 7/10.

    #32 Super Mario Maker 2
I want one of these for every major SNES classic. Especially after the letdown of the above dungeon builder. 10/10

    #33 Sayonara Wild Hearts
This was a bit of a goofy experience to play on the bus to work. Think Rez meets pop music and shōjo manga. 7/10

    #34 Gears 5
More of the same, really. It's not really a complaint - I do like the Gears formula - but the places where the Coalition have tried to innovate are the weaker parts of this experience. It's painfully clear the open world skiff segments were designed to be combat arenas (the skiff has a turret, just no gun, what?).

I like the single focus of the narrative aiming at Kait, but seeing the reemergence of the "total end of humanity" story taking precedence over the uneasy balance we saw in Gears 4 sort of diminishes the impact somewhat.

Escape is a great addition, however, as a quicker alternative to Hoard. 7/10

Finally Upto 3 games this year!

    1)Phantasy Star Sega Ages Switch 02/01 (8/10)
    2)Octopath Traveler 19/01 (8/10)
    3)Metro Exodus PC 29/09

Metro plays as expected while the design all round is top notch I get the feeling I'm not actually enjoying the mutants rushing at me. The end sequence with the falling rafters or the spider sequence were suitably terrifying but the game felt it was building to something and then just ended.

    7.5/10

I didn't own a NES so missed out on the originals. I had to make use of the save feature and heavily abused this, I wouldn't have got through the later levels without it. I quite enjoyed it. It's interesting to see how the series started out.

I had a NES, never beat castlevania legit (never got close) so save spamming my way through the game was the only way i would ever get through it.

Loved it on PS3 and this edition has many improvements, and the addition of a third lady means it changes the story a fair bit from the original. Managed to see all 13 endings as well, bosh.

Got a month until Death Stranding so think it might finally be time to put the hours into Red Dead Redemption 2...

One of the first games I owned on SNES, I loved it back then and it's still great. It looks really good still and plays so well. I haven't got all exits or done the Star road yet. I did so when I originally played on the SNES way back in '94 but will likely dip back in from time to time. I know I have loads of retro stuff on the Pi but it was nice playing in handheld mode.

19 Gears of War Ultimate (PC) (13/8/19) (7.5/10)
    20. Zanki Zero (PS4) (7/10/19) (9/10)

Massive gap since last completed game...

Zanki Zero, best described as a story heavy Japanese Survival Sim Real-Time Dungeon Crawler RPG (think Dungeon Master/Grimrock for Dungeon crawling) set in a Post Apocalyptic world with a Sega Blue Skies Aesthetic where you control short-lived (13 day lifespan) clones of the last 8 survivors of humanity.

The game has a pretty decent story overall which I enjoyed with a healthy balance of dark and silly (had some of the Danganronpa crew working on it). Gameplay is initially a little frustrating with weak characters but one of the gameplay features makes you stronger in the future to whatever method of death killed you so the more you die the stronger you ultimately become. Simple upgradable base and cooking/crafting mechanics along with a need to manage hunger, stress and bladder are the main survival mechanics.

Graphics are nice and pretty even though they aren't too technical (the Japanese version launched on Vita too). Japanese voices are good, didn't try the English dub. The range of environments to explore work well enough as you find out the secret past of one character per chapter (based on the seven sins). Runs smoothly enough and the range of puzzles is decent enough if fairly standard Dungeon crawl fodder, and the automap is a great help. Difficulty is adjustable (5 levels from 1 with no survival challenges and easy combat to 5 with more collectible item drops on higher difficulties, I played mostly on 4 and finished on that).

I finished the game with all support conversations and character links maxed and most characters at level 99 with 62% trophies. Took me about 60 hours. One final note is there was a lot of controversy about censorship, but you can safely ignore the complaints as no story elements were removed just some uncomfortable images of your young form and some pants shots. All the story bits around those scenes is still there. Much better censorship job than Tokyo Mirage Sessions which made the story seem odd in one chapter.

Progress in my 52 games is poor, may get lowest result ever this year. Next game is likely me playing more Earthbound on WiiU, or finishing Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly or Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenofram. Tempted to buy AI: Somnium Files too. Or I will play a few shorter games to build numbers up... Apologies for length of post but this game seemed to get mostly ignored so I thought I would give more detail on it.
