I like JRPGs. Persona 5 is 20 quid. Is this a no brainer?

@gizzaciggy Similar to previous instalments. Turn-based with an extended Rock Paper Scissors element system. Bosses more complex, some incorporating mild puzzle elements.

Personally I think the game is fantastic.

However this isn't your typical jrpg. You will spend a lot of time just doing ordinary things like going to school, taking exams etc. This isn't for everyone as it is very dialogue heavy in that regard and quite slow.

My game of the generation, paying full price is a bargain let alone £20.

I like it, it's a good game, but there's a fair chance you'll get burned out on it long before you get to the end IMO.

£20 is definitely no-brainer territory though

Conversely, 100 hours of length is massively off-putting, good value or not.

Yeah. 100 hours is quite the turn off. I'm glad I went into the original Xenoblade not knowing how long it was going to take though, otherwise I'd have never bothered.

Iím all for shorter games, when people moan that 8 hours isnít good value it means I have a chance of finishing something - but I loved every minute of P4G, I got about 40 hours through before starting again after a lay-off and didnít care about facing another 80 in that world. I thought about starting again straight away when I finished. It was perfect being on Vita as well as I could play in bed. Iíve not played 5 yet though, trying to clear some shorter stuff in the backlog first

Definitely. Have a friend who's almost at the end on this and he wishes that game was over already.

I myself though it was too long too, but it's still a pretty darn good game.

I hope this comes out for the Switch as it would be a great fit. Plus, you know, playing it in bed.

@Cadence Strongly rumoured announcement for Switch and PC (plus DLC for the PS4 version) expected in March. Wouldn't care for a Switch version, but would very much like it on PC.

That's great news! I would be in two minds about getting it for pc myself actually, depending how good the port was.

On the length of P5... I brought home a fairly completionist playthrough (all confidants maxed) in just over 80 hours. That's pretty much consistent with base-game P3 and slightly shorter than base-game P4. It's not particularly outside the normal spectrum for JRPGs, where 60-80 hours seems to be the modern norm and there is probably less grinding in P5 (unless you set the difficulty too high) than in titles like Dragon Quest XI. Of course, P3:FES and P4:Golden were both 120+ hour monsters and I expect P5:R will be similar.

A lot of people do seem to feel that the last couple of dungeons in P5 went on a bit too long. There's probably a point there, though I didn't really feel it myself. The fact that you can auto-resolve many of the battles (and indeed, the trick is sometimes working out how not to auto-resolve them because you actually want to fight) from a point in the third dungeon onwards does speed things up a lot.

I don't know how you do it. My P4 playthrough was 140+ hours.

    I'm a mere 10 hours in.

I think it only really started to get its claws into me at around hour 8. Up until that point I was struggling with the long passages of dialogue and repetitive battles.

Having completed the first dungeon, it's definitely improved and I'm feeling a stronger connection with the characters. It's stylish as hell, but also a little clunky.

At this stage I couldn't see it taking up 100+ hours of my life like Breath of the Wild, but you never know.
