I think it's out of his reach now. I've been listening to The Move podcast, and Bruyneel and the other host (not Lance) reckoned Roglic could only afford a minute or so…

Surprised at Roglic's result today although I only saw the last 2km. He looked superhuman in week 1. Its set up nicely right now for a great finale.

Another superhuman is Van Der Poel (again). This time ripping it up on mountain bike world cup circuit. There's a nice clip in this article:

Van der Poel Mountain bike win
It must be super demotivating to start anywhere with VdP. Competed in Cyclocross all winter, spent the spring season in road racing (with that Amstel finish!) and then joins the MBT to reduce the current world and olympic champion to a competent runner up.

Best clickbait article I saw regarding Mathieu this week.
A picture of Wout Van Aert and the title "Van Aert had to get this off his chest regarding Mathieu Van der Poel".

Article: after MVdP won his first MTB world cup race, Wout tweeted "Hats off!".

I do enjoy Pascal Ackermann. He's always so cheerful. Plus he drops the swears in the post-race interview.

Pidcock wins the under-23 Paris-Roubaix title at 19.

Between him, Remco Evenepoel, and the more established MvdP, the near future of pro cycling (especially the classics) looks to be very exciting.

Just scrolled by this when checking the news:

Team INEOS can confirm that Chris Froome crashed during a recon of stage four of the Criterium du Dauphine today.

He is currently on his way to a local hospital and won’t start today’s fourth stage.

We will provide a further update in due course.

Holy moly. Wout Van Aert just clocked an 18s lead on Tom Dumoulin in the Dauphiné time trial.

Nice. At least the sun's out today for the event. A shame about Froome: less than a month until the TdF.

ETA - Eurosport commentator just said it's bad and he won't be there: broken his femur :/

Must have been a nasty crash. They had to suspend the womens race somewhere today after a crash, seems they ran out of doctors that could cover any further accidents. Hope it isn't too serious.

Gutted to lose Froome, You always want the big stars at a big tour but means G will get a free run, and Bernal (if fit) may be G's what he was too froome and froome to wiggins.

Wonder whether Sivakov or TG-H (if recovered) will get a ride there too.

Another win for Wout van Aert :o

Plus, looks like Froome will get another GT added to his palmarés: 2011 Vuelta. That would make him rather than Wiggins the first British Grand Tour winner.

Waw!A sprint against Alaphillipe no less (and Bennet, although he lost position and didn't really get up to speed until it was too late)

Hmm.. Wonder how cheap W. Aert will be in the fantasy TDF. Must be something about Cyclo cross that sets up their riders for road racing. I guess you're constantly doing recovery riding which helps.

Just reading Dan Martin's account of Froome's crash, he was about 20 seconds behind the sky group on his own reecy. He thought he was dead. Just hit the wall and stopped flat out. nasty.

It’s the off-road discipline with the least rest available- just bouncing over and under the limit for an hour. And it needs burst of high power constantly too so you won’t see many skinny riders- makes for an ideal “puncheur”.
Very different fitness to road though and I can’t help thinking only those young enough and talented enough, like WvA and MvdP have the capacity to add the endurance needed for multi day stuff on the road and make the two halves still work.

They're passing by our apartment later on, and tomorrow as well:)

Looking forward to see it live for the first time.

Cold and grey in the UK :( Put paid to my ride this morning – my new aero jersey is super-lightweight and I felt very chilly.

Am more a mountain biker at heart and gave up on that over 20 years ago, but watching the Tour always makes me feel the itch again... Just no space for bikes right now but some day...

Busy weekend and no chance to watch any of the cycling yet. :-/

Jumbo Visma is off to a damn good start. Any thoughts on leadership at team Ineos? Officially it's all for Geraint but surely it could end up with Bernal taking yellow and carrying it to Paris, the same way Geraint did last year where it was officially all for Froome.

I'm curious how some of these top contenders being unable to attend is going to shake things up.

I saw Eurosport put Bradely Wiggins on a motorbike for comments from inside the race. That should be entertaining. :-)

Yeah I think Bernal has a great chance. Was tempted to stick a bet on, even though I don’t bet. Think there are five summit finishes above 2000m as well so more of the traditional climbers that don’t rely on power could have a chance too. Could be a really exiting tour

He's already had a row with that Belgian wildcard, got fed up of calling it a "natural break" and just said the riders need to take a piss. He's good value.

Yeah, Bernal has to be the one this year. I see Greg LeMond has picked out Valverde as one to watch, citing a 5kg weight loss. Greg is always good for a left-field shout that's based entirely on his own internal algorithmic understanding of how things work.

Bernal will have a bad day at some point and drop a few minutes. Should be there for Thomas to take if he’s taken his fitness seriously, there’s no real competition in the peloton. Valverde won’t win it, no chance
