Registered 15 years agoAh, but there's a trophy for finishing the entire campaign under a certain time. Think there's one for no damage whatsoever too !
You can hop into free missions and back no problem, everything progression-wise carries between the two, and the option to clear your campaign data for that speed-run later shouldn't affect it either. -
Christ, the escort missions are beyond terrible. Archaic trial and error design that would have felt outdated 20 years ago.
They've got the engine, they've got the mechanics, butthe missions are so hit and miss, it's depressing. -

Christ I rubbish at this 😀 still on the first VR mission.
Admittedly only tried 2x but I keep running out of time on ‘Easy’
I wish free flight was available immediately, I would be happy with that.
All I keep hearing is missile-missile-missile-pull up-pull up-pull up -

Yeah. Stuck there. It's such a cool idea for a mission, and yet so poorly executed. Or maybe I am just terrible at the game.
@UncleLou McKinley?
(You don't want to know how often I've shot the fucker down at the beginning to vent my frustration after yet another failed attempt)..gif)

Registered 6 years agoTried my HOTAS again last night on elite dangerous; fuck me if this thing doesn't make that game 10 times as much fun. It's a pity there's no rumble, and the throttle stick could do with a bit more give - and it still boils my piss that it won't work with AC5 - but think I'm keeping this.
Can't be arsed with a trip back to Agros, tbh.
(That's a blatant lie, it's literally on my way home: I was never taking it back.) -

Registered 20 years agoBack in the day I did have a force-feedback stick that I used to play IL2 on - it was good in that you had to fight the turns, and when it stalled the stick went slack (bit like skidding in a racing game with a force-feedback wheel).
That thing was expensive, and wasn't supported after Windows 98

Registered 6 years agoWell, that's the thing, isn't it. I'd be all over one that had the force feedback and was either reasonably priced, or worked with everything. Hell, I can't even get one that works just on every game on the one console. And then, we're on the cusp of a new generation, and I can almost guarantee any peripheral I'm buying now the cunts will make me buy again for next gen (again, even if I stayed on an apparently backwards compatible system - assuming it even is that, of course).
As for Valkyrie: I bought that in a sale going mental buying ALL THE VR when I first got the headset, not realising it was pretty much all online. I only got time for one of those, otherwise I just can't keep up with all the children who have 24 hours a day to throw at it, and, frankly... that's Firewall. Which is a shame, as I did enjoy it, and just flying around blew me away. -

Registered 16 years agoFair point although it does have the exploration mode if you just want to chill. Defo worth a go with your new toy anyway. -

Registered 14 years agoFinished this last night. I'm fine with everything really apart from the length - I could have done with just two or three more missions, specifically more dogfighting ones. It could be taken as a compliment that this obviously means I was enjoying the game a great deal.
Also the story was just OK. Most would argue that the story isn't why you should be playing these games, and I would see their point, but I think I had a problem with the characters. And I while I get the contemporary angle of the drones stuff but it's not as impactful as fighting a human military.
AC4 remains my favourite story-wise. In that game the story is narrated by a character you never actually see, he's just an anonymous guy telling the story of the war from the ground, behind enemy lines, who starts to hear about your feats and makes you feel like a badass. Definitely prefer the narration-over-2D-illustrations thing too, it has a touch of class that this was missing.
All that being said this is plainly the best AC game overall. It's just easy to nitpick! -

Ha, those SAM sites can be tricky to spot, took me about 5 or 6 attempts using the F2 with GPB.

Registered 16 years ago@SteveBUK It's all about prioritising targets. And not spunking all your countermeasures on the easy to avoid missiles.
Mission 2 was the hardest for me overall - took a lot of checkpoint retries. Not even tried the 2D game yet, so no idea how 2D and VR compare difficulty wise. -

I will only ever play the VR missions, not wasting my time on the 2D sideshow 😀
I have spent far more than 40 minute on the first mission and still not finished it!
Ok, how do I use countermeasures? -

Registered 16 years agoDunno mate. It's circle on the HOTAS but not sure about the DS4. Someone will tell you.
You should probably check out the controller options to see what buttons you need to press. It will definitely help!
