Weíre going all the way back to the start of aol instant messenger times here. Do not use your name or something which will easily identify you type of thing. Honestly, I was blanking for ages trying to figure out a variation of a nickname from home. I couldnít think of anything and glanced down at then and of my boxers. Tommy Hilfigers. I use it for absolutely everything. XBox live, PSN etc.

Christ it's a bit embarrassing now but: I had mates who were into graffiti and tagging in my late teens, and I designed my own tag around the fact that "ben" (my actual name) with a lowercase b looks a bit like "hed" in a mirror like: hed | ben . I never tagged it anywhere though because I was too scared (and felt it was a bit wrong even back then).

The "hed" bit also has a separate meaning but I'd dox myself if I explained it. I've used the same username since the early 2000's, appending the year I signed up each time (my Xbox gamertag is hedben2008).

Also I am in no way affiliated with the Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge.

When I was much younger and going to LAN cafť's frequently, everyone had edge lord names. "Shadow", "Skull", "Demon", etc. I was into anime then and learning a little Japanese on the side. Took my surname, converted it into hiragana (syllabic writing) as much as it could be, and then converted that back into the romaji (japanese characters written down as normal romanised letters).

It came out as Rivuzu. It stuck. It was unique, and still is. And I've been using it for over 15 years now.

No really exciting history behind my name, my nickname from school added with WayOh.l because there was a song at the time that sounded like JamboWayOh, so it stuck.

    Imaginative I know.

I didn't really have an identity till I got into MMOs around the time WoW launched. In RPGs I gravitated towards magic users (my first wow toon was a Warlock) so I thought about magicy sounding names.

Just plucked Sharzam out of no where and then used that when I got a 360. So just made sense to make that my gamer identity and stayed ever since. As most of you guys know I had a bit of a meltdown on the dating thread and deleted my account. So when i reregistered went with Sharz, which is what people tend to call me in voice chat anyway.

Mine is inspired by the japanese dish Tonkatsu. Not by the toy trucks, contrary to popular belief. I didn't even know that there was a toy company called Tonka when I created the username.

(I also disprove of calling them user ID's and I still miss the snobbery of knowing the actual ID)
    I approve, Tonkatsu is lovely.

I have a couple of other IDs I use more often now, but I registered on here ages ago.

So, if I go to USGamer and change my ID to say, ecosseisacunt, will armoured_bear be gone for good or will swapping back work?

Used to play online quake all the time. Before quakeworld came out so everyone had a crap modem and hilariously bad pings. It was all I used to play at the time and I needed a name for a clan. I ran the website for the team and I asked for different pictures of each person. For me, i saw a picture of the godfather advert and edited it slightly to say quadfather. And used it ever since.
