    @Rogueywon

Why wouldn't the worthless shit just continue with his current modus operandi? Plenty of easy answers then. And when they are proven wrong and/or lies you shovel more easy answers out.

They'll still blame the EU. The transition period will mean they can still be used as an excuse for a good while. Even once we're formally fully out of the EU, they'll still point back in time and say that stuff the EU did back then is the reason we can't do stuff now.

@grey_matters On FlyBe you actually need to do (or not do) something. It's an active choice either way and the timescales are likely pretty tight.

I used to be pretty well plugged into the sector and FlyBe was known five years ago as a badly-run basket-case business. But it also does a pretty essential job and if it vanishes, the consequences are immediate - people not able to get to work or to see friends and family.

An awful lot of being in government is about reacting to the latest thing that's gone wrong, without much time to think through your response. This is very much in that category. There's a (probably) legal solution, but it's a pretty binary choice between "regional economies" and "the environment".

True, but this won't last forever. Personally, I suspect the next big "British Steel" moment will be what prompts some kind of post-Brexit reckoning.

This is why I think anybody who thinks the result of the next election is sewn-up is stark raving mad.

Surely if the routes are really that essential and popular then another airline will take them on?

Messing with air duty doesn't seem like the answer if anything it should be higher for internal flights.

@TheSaint FlyBe's business model is fundamentally different from other UK airlines. They don't tend to target profitble routes, but rather they seek subsidy on unviable routes where international (UN/ICAO) conventions permit governments to pay a subsidy under Public Service Obligation rules. They're configured very differently from other airlines - not set up to chase yield, but rather to maximise subsidy (so more like a train operator than an airline). Other airlines aren't likely to be interested in muscling into that space, unlike with... say... Thomas Cook.

The problem with your second sentence is that in parts of the country, there aren't really practical alternative to air travel. That's obviously true for Northern Ireland (which has special APD rules anyway) and for the Scottish islands, but it also applies to parts of the South West. The road and rail links there aren't fantastic (and upgrading them would take a decade at least plus billions of pounds), so air is the only realistic option. This is the sharp-end where environmental policy comes into conflict with economic and regional policy.

Don't care what happens to other parts of the country now. It's clear that that is where we are now.

All the leadership candidates have now pledged to follow through on the BODís recommendations, which is fantastic and incredibly reassuring for the future of the party.

There is a very vocal section of the membership who are disgusted and outraged, which completely baffles me. Imagine being so angry at a set of meaningful guidelines for being less racist. Itís just an embarrassment.

But anyway, fuck Ďem. The party is healing and the dark days feel like theyíre over. Iím very happy.

I particularly like the demand that the BOD respond appropriately to Hillsborough.

Has Swindon really not crossed the line vis a vis the Religious and Racial Hatred Act 2006 yet? She must be skirting fucking close to it.

The self-aggrandisement is actually quite impressive. I mean, the language used. Who the fuck are you to be demanding anything of anyone?

Jess Phillips has called for her suspension.

If this is what itís like now, can you imagine what itís going to be like when the EHRC hits?
