Remember the severely sight-impaired Gordon Brown was ripped apart by the right-wing press for personally handwriting letterA to the bereaved families of fallen soldiers using a pen and writing size large enough for him to see?

So disrespectful of him. Much better to literally ignore them then lie about it.

It is painful watching Johnson bumble and bluff his way through PMQs, fumbling for his next jab or joke to get himself out of having to do or say anything of substance. He is so out of his depth it is unreal that this is who we have in charge of things.

Imagine if we had general election now. We'd probably get rid of these cousin fucking Alan Partridges.

Gavin Williamson taking a bit of kicking in a select committee briefing on the exam grades fuck up. Ofqual repeatedly saying they advised DfE of pitfalls.

It's still shocking just how bad Johnson is at PMQs.

Do Johnny and Jane Public give a shit though?

People say Starmerís approach is unspectacular and he should be really ramming points home more loudly but I think this is a more forensic long game. He can just stand there week after week after week being unflustered as Johnson flaps. You can see Boris trying to get a rise out of him but he just continues probing, continues presenting evidence and Johnson doesnít know how to respond.

PMQs is horses for courses and Corbynís letter from the public style had some merit against someone perceived as cold like May or not in touch with normal people like Cameron. It didnít work but the logic is there.

Borisís worst nightmare is being trapped and unpicked by a lawyer and now heís got a highly experienced QC in front of him and nowhere to run.

If he can keep away from PMQs he could probably get away with his act for a long awhile yet because he is still popular but the longer these performances continue and the more the press take notice and the more competence becomes the word of the day he could get in real trouble,

At which point Cummings either goes full culture wars or replaces him with Gove or Patel or someone equally awful.

I think so. I also think itíd be a big mistake since everyone hates him already. I donít like Johnson but you couldnít deny his popularity.

That said unless Labour and the SNP make friends and something radically shifts in England in the cold parliamentary maths the Tories are the front runners in terms of seats for 2024 already.

Surrounded by them where I live. I also see many of the same denying that Covid is a risk, or even real.

I am surprised that a hire who responded to Cummings desire for misfits and weirdos would respond in this way.

    Fucking hell

I can hardly read or listen to this story. The kid is only slightly younger than Baby Maybe and I canít imagine the desperation they must have felt or the pain the mother must have been in. Starvation isnít a sudden thing to happen and for the baby to survive she mustíve been giving it everything at her own expense and that minister just waffles on about immigration status as if she didnít even hear Kay Burley say that she is fucking dead. She was killed by our immigration system and it isnít even acknowledged,

The thing is, this only changes when people start giving a fuck. We have the government we deserve, a bunch of absolute cunts representing a nation of who largely only give a shit about other people when they are claiming benefits.

It is a horrible situation. Agree entirely with you Maybe.
I'm in the same fucking city, sitting pretty on lockdown. This floored me when it came to the news. Fucksake I've got a Brexit stockpile in my cupboard she could have had the lot and come back for more.
I hate hate hate that this is a position dictated to us by Westminster. The system and the government up here are by no means perfect, and the people are just the same people but fuck me if this doesn't shame all those 2014 no voters in to repenting. At least let us fall down on our own merits and not evil fucking tory westminster.

Certainly sobering to hear Sturgeon suggest the R-value of the virus may well be at c.1.4. I wonder if we'll see such a candid admission by the UK gov, but I guess it's possible a stiff upper lip and a few choruses of Rule Britannia will have suppressed it down south.

Also, just lol at the absolute state of the cretins crying about Glasgow being shown preferential treatment in comparison to Aberdeen. Jesus wept.

The big university union, UCU, put out a statement saying that we could expect another 50,000 deaths thanks to the cross country movement of staff and students for the start of term.

The assumptions were an R of 3 and mass infection of almost 100%. Apparently it didnít factor in any mitigation measures but it wouldnít shock me if a significant number of students werenít doing their bit.

Yeah. I moved out from academia a few years back, but some friends and former colleagues are genuinely concerned. It's hard to see it not being anything but a disaster, tbh. Pretty bleak :(
