I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in The Treasury when this beauty hit the news wires:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the government would "make sure that we give the NHS all the funding that it needs... to beat the backlog".

Shall we just mark it as yet another broken promise now to save time later?

Wait, he was GIFTED the shares? So the official story is a company his sister was director of gave him 15% of it's shares expecting nothing in return?

I know politics in the UK has been depressing for a while now, but the descent into naked, unbridled corruption is still a lot faster than I expected.

It took them 10 years and a thumping majority, to be fair, but they got there in the end.

Its the logical consequence of The Purge, right? They got rid of anyone who was even remotely in it for what they saw as the betterment of the country and promoted moral vacuums willing to do anything to get that stepping stone onto the board of a petro-chemical company.

Say what you like about Conservatism, at least its an ethos (man). These people dont believe in anything other than self-enrichment.

So we are stuck with a cabinet full of grasping, morally bankrupt morons.

You've got to admire them a little bit. They've managed to do all that whilst convincing a large part of the population that to criticize then is to criticize the country. I know there's a fine line to tread, bit when can Labour stay calling this out for the open corruption that it is? 'Cronyism' and 'sleazy' just don't seem strong enough.

Yeah, 100%. Its absolutely disgusting. Every time something like this comes up, the press and an army of paid twitter shills go on the offensive to scream 'but asian grooming gangs!' and 'Tony Blair is a War Criminal' in our faces.

They have genuinely convinced their electorate that its OK for Tory MPs to wet their beaks because Labour MPs are at it too, that they are all as bad as each other. Not they fucking arent! Labour arent awarding any of these contracts!

Ugh... it is so fucking grim and without the government passing 'vote for christmas' laws, theres nothing that can be done.

It took Greed-Is-Good Johnson. When your leader is proudly immoral in every way, who with any real say is going to criticise you.

Maybe this sinks Hancock, maybe not, still a thousand other grubby fuckwits to take over if necessary.

Yes, but you need an appropriate figurehead, someone who you can point at and say 'They'd do the same.' May wasn't that, Johnson is.

5 Live are talking about how corrupt Labour and the unions are.

And Johnson will defend it too, long after it becomes indefensible by anyone without his unique moral viewpoint. If Patel had pulled her treacherous shit in Israel under Johnson, he'd have waved it off as decisive political thinking.

Do you remember when David Cameron made a joke about corruption in Nigeria to their anti corruption President's face?

Lets have a go at this.

Labour aren't rewarding them, because they're not in power to do it.

...So, what could we expect of a labour government that is in power? Well, as I adopted two kids from Newham, it became a fairly close area of my personal interest for a while, and I remember this one time, in Newham, where there was huge focus at the corruption taking place in the council at the time.

    https://www.revolutionarycommunist.org/branches/london/4822-exposing-labour-s-corruption-in-east-london

No mention of the 46 Labour councillors in Newham who own or control almost 100 properties in the borough including one who has 19 properties that bring in monthly rent of over 20,000.
They used their positions to get ahead of the B2L schemes and make these purchases knowing their were also arranging the council to guarantee their rents back, making a killing. Essentially they all got together to sell themselves rents on their own properties.

Nice bunch. Whataboutism accusations I can expect to see from you, but to act like Labour wouldn't do something that feathers their own nests is idiotic.

I await the 'pile-in from the usual mob of wankers on here, but take a deep breath and think about what you're saying.

I don't think its a case of a corrupt Labour politician, or a corrupt Conservative politician, but more just corrupt politicians overall.

Reduce that to 240 characters and thats exactly the kind stupid shit you see paid shill and bot accounts come out with.

You can be mad at those councillors because THEY ARE IN CHARGE OF THEIR COUNCILS. You cant be mad at the Labour MPS because THEY ARENT IN CHARGE OF ANYTHING. They arent as bad as each other because those MPS between them havent awarded a single cent of public funds for over a decade and the majority of them not at all.

This is exactly the kind of state sponsored nihilism that keeps these morons in charge. Whats the point of voting for anyone else? At least these corrupt shitheads hate the same people who I hate.

    Thank you.

Well, actually, right now, Labour is in charge of the opposition. Their "job" is to keep the majority government in check.

    It's literally that!

The role of the Official Opposition is to question and scrutinise the work of the Government.
    https://www.parliament.uk/site-information/glossary/opposition-the/

They're supposed to prevent them from doing this. When they were last in power (and I'd argue, every time) they're no fucking better... But you do have to go a long way back. You know there are examples of labour corruption as much as I do, and a lack of address by the Conservative opposition when it was their 'job', so what's your fucking point here?

    Voter apathy?

Conservative supporters shit-talking about Blair and the illegal war? You can just as easily argue Conservative failure to prevent them from getting away with it as you can when Conservative Governments are doing some shady shit and Labour fail to hold them to account.

What the fuck are you talking about? How many contracts have Labour handed out to their friends this last year? How could Labour have stopped Matt Hancock taking 15% in a company that would later be awarded NHS contracts? They dont have a Shadow Secretary for Checking Matt Hancocks homework? Or David Cameron taking advantage of a loophole he created?

Thats very abusive partner speak. WHY DIDNT YOU STOP ME BEING CORRUPT? THIS IS YOUR FAULT!

This is just the stuff that's relatively easy to expose. I imagine there is a whole lot of shit buried in shell companies and various other shady processes.

Advisors, Board Members, Silent Partners, Shareholders. It should all be completely off limits. If 80k a year isn't enough to get by on fuck off out of politics.

"It's too hard to do" isn't really good enough as a reason for an opposition party.

ow many contracts have Labour handed out to their friends this last year?
They're not in power shit-for-brains, they CAN'T hand out any contracts.

What they CAN do, and is their JOB to do is hold the active majority Government to account for it.

So, we appear to now KNOW they've done it... What is the opposition DOING about this.

And no, it's not "abusive partner speak", its more like policing a set of people that can be corrupt in a position of power, to prevent them from doing it.

Here's a thought for you. If one party is less corrupt than the other, is it because they are more honest, the opposition is better at showing them up, or piss-poor at detecting the corruption so it's never seen?

Irony not withstanding, Im not really sure what youre blathering on about. Thats exactly what I said. They are not in power ergo they literally cant be as corrupt as the tories because they dont have access to the money cannon the government are shooting at all of their friends.

They arent the police, carlo. They are there to oppose them, not root out corruption and malfeasance like CSI: Westminster. Yes, they should do a better job of holding them to account but that has got very little to do with the nonsense you blurted out previously.

Just sit and have a think before you reply to this, theres a good lad.

And how are the opposition supposed to hold the Government to account when they have an 80-seat majority? a) A lot of this has been done without Parliamentary scrutiny due to Covid, b) You need a large rebellion to defeat the Govt in any case - there haven't been any in the Commons (to my knowledge?) since the start of this Parliament. And c) Other methods of scrutiny (such as Select Committees) are weighted according to the Parliamentary majority and are quite ineffective as a result (and more are Chaired by Con MPs). Labour may well be as bad when in power but they aren't at the moment and haven't been for 13 years.

No it isn't. He's trying to compare two parties actions in the last year. One party in power has handed out contracts to organisations they have invested in and are therefore corrupt, the other party is not corrupt because they've not handed out any contracts.

They've not handed out any contracts because the can't, not because they wouldn't be lining their own pockets given the chance.

He's then suggesting people who make the argument that they are both the same is the reason why we have this situation where something like this could happen.

It isn't. It's because any party in power is able to do this, without repercussions. It's not one party is better than another, is politicians.

The role of the opposition is supposed to prevent this, and it doesn't. It doesn't when Labour is in power, and it doesn't when conservatives are either.

The problem is the system, but nickthegun wants to present the facts like the problem is the Conservatives.

Actually, Im not. Im trying to point out that when the Tories are caught with their hand in the till, the media machine revs up and trots out the same old false equivalencies and tired old talking point to convince people that its fine to be corrupt because everyone is at it which is why they are able to do it again and again with no consequences. And for all your weird posturing on the failures of labour to hold them to account, why arent they fucking holding themselves to account? Why does NOBODY suffer any punishment for this? Shouldnt the government of the entire country be holding themselves to a better standard than letting our nation rot under abject corruption? Its not just down to labour to hold themselves to account, the conservatives should want to be better and do better but they dont. They are a disgrace.

And Labour arent at it because they literally cant be. The fact that you have been convinced that every MP is as bent as the ones in charge proves its working. They arent. Its convenient for you to think it is but not everyone is as morally bankrupt as the current government.

Its like the morons posting pictures of empty shelves last year and posting 'THIS IS WHAT A COUNTRY UNDER JEREMY CORBYN WOULD LOOK LIKE' when what we actually are seeing is a picture of the country after 10 straight years of tory rule.
