Controller advice

Anyone recommend a good controller that can be used for PC gaming? There's the xbox controller for Windows but that seems a tad pricey.

    The Xbox controller.

Also you seem to have forgotten about the football threads this year.

I have an xbox one. I've heard the xbox controllers will work on pc as well?
  • Deleted user 19 February 2019 08:42:40
Yup. It's not cheap but you do get what you pay for.
  • Deleted user 19 February 2019 08:43:08
    They do. No brainer then

They do, you can either get the wireless adapter to use it wirelessly or just connect it via USB and use it wired.

Do you even need the adapter? Am using mine via BT, not sure if there are versions without that though.

Depends how old the Xbox pad is I think.

    @KnuttinAtoll

As I recall dosent it require calibrating the controller from xbox to pc and then back again.

Does depend where your wireless adaptor is, mine is behind my PC against the wall next to the telly so i'd have to pull the PC forwards to push the button on it every time i wanted to change.

Best thing to do would probably be sack your manager.

You mean pair it? Yeah that's quick. It's Microsoft so works pretty much out of the box with Windows, small niggles notwithstanding. I like the controller a lot and that's coming from a former Sony fanboy.

Most games also display the Xbox buttons in game UI which is nice.

DS4 is excellent but probably the X1 controller has better plug'n'play compatibility, especially wireless (the DS4 has issues with that, so I use it wired only). I've never tried an X1 controller so can't compare, but the DS4 is vastly superior to the X360.

I use my Switch Pro controller when playing on Steam. Possibly the best and most comfortable controller I have used (except if you need a precise dpad)

No analogue triggers is a bit of a shitter for some games though.

I still use an old 360 controller. It works just better, and I prefer its sticks and buttons to those of the X1 controller.

The d-pad is terrible, but if I'm playing some 2D game, chances are I'd rather use the keyboard anyway.

Yeah, like fifa has analogue triggers for sprint. If you didn’t have analogue triggers you might end up losing 6-0 if you were Chelsea and the opponent chose Man City for example.

Please don't buy a switch pro controller, it's alright but it's over priced and is gimped if you ever want to play a driving game or a game that involves any driving. Or anything that requires any precision from the triggers.

This. Get an Xbox one controller. Easily the best option imo.

No love for the steam controller?

I use that, and an xbox 360 controller.

Have you tried turning your manager off and on again?

I would also recommend the Xbox One Controller. Easily the best controller in my experience.

However, does anyone else have a problem with using it wirelessly with the dongle? It'll work fine for a few weeks, including some recharges, but then one day it will just start disconnecting after only a few minutes and then will keep doing so for awhile even after leaving it to charge for an entire day or more... and then one day it will just start working again. Luckily I can play with it wired via USB so it never completely prevents me from playing anything but it is annoying, especially as it usually gives you just enough time to get into the game, play for a couple of minutes and then disconnect and some games will then require a restart to get it to work while plugged in instead. I have two controllers as well, each with their own play & charge battery and when it happens with one it happens with both. Anybody experienced this and/ or know of any solutions?

I just resentfully bought myself an Xbone (for windows pack with cable) ti replace my failing 360 pad with a sticky trigger. So pricy but it was nice to have RT randomly start doing things midgame :)

One of my boys bought the PUBG-styled Xbox One controller and used it with a Bluetooth dongle on PC. This was giving him a lot of issues (random disconnects, buttons not reacting).
So we bought the Xbox controller dongle and everything's fine now.

Having said that, my other son has the same setup (PC + Xbox One controller via bluetooth) and he has no issues. So interference from other appliances is something to take into account.

Switching between USB wired play and wireless worked fine for them so far (but they're typically only playing Fortnite...).

Also we're not using play-and-charge packs but rechargeable AA batteries (we have plenty for all the Wii(U) and Xbox controllers in our household ;))

As a console gamer who never really tried pc gaming that much I’ve been giving it ago the last 6 months. My hands are quite small so using a keyboard can be difficult in some games. I considered a console style controller for pc but some games there aren’t enough buttons. I got a Razer Tartarus recently and honestly it’s been a godsend! Programmeable keys and all fits on one hand. I highly recommend trying it for pc gaming over a standard controller. It’s improved me no end on pc! Almost to the point where pc gaming is taking more time than console for me now.
