Looks great. Proper Pokemon gameplay and gorgeous graphics. Going to be a massive system seller for the Switch.

Graphics look pretty bad to me, terrible low res ground textures and flat lighting, Switch can do much better :(

I've been waiting 20 years for this game. Not sure how much I care any more but it does look kinda cool.

My thoughts too, looks good! I'm a sucker for a traditional pokemon RPG.

    Need all the details though!

Never got on board with Pokemon after the first 2 gens, they just look a bit shit. Will give this a go though, looks like as big a departure as we're likely to get from the usual grid based over worlds.

    I'm half and half.
It's looking good, but you know, not *that* good.
It' will be interesting to see how the online will play out, and what the local co op will look like.

Even better if there was some Pokémon Go tie in - though I know it's not going to have.

I was a bit early for the pokemon boat and as a result never really got on board with it, but my daughter is currently going nuts for this.

I think the uk inspired world is a great choice.

When are we expecting reviews? Surely they'll be up before launch day (I've never played Pokemon so I don't know the general expectation but I'm assuming something this big from Nintendo won't run to the wire)?

In an era of review embargos are you really expecting them to be up before release day?

Well Nintendo have been pretty early recently.

It's probably (and hopefully) just more Pokemon. They're usually good at easing in new players, so I can't see that being an issue. Sometimes there are changes to bits and pieces of the formula, but the core gameplay hasn't really moved on too far from Blue/Red all those years ago.

I really hope you enjoy it if it is your first proper Pokemon experience as there is so much joy to be had with them :D

I'm not worried about not being able to play, I'm interested in whether I want to in the first place.

All I'm reading about it at the moment is criticism, but it's from people that are significantly invested in the collectathon that the pokédex entails. I'm not one of those people, so I'm more interested in how the RPG holds up.

No, don't be. I didn't take it like that.
I've got a mate that effing loves it, has played every game and is collecting every mon. He's pretty angry about "dexit" and reading about it all online in gaming forums, the majority of voices are the same (because internet and gaming forums).

I'm interested in playing if it's decent, and he's quite keen for me to grab the other copy than his to get access to the relevant pokémon, so I'm just interested in reading the reviews to see if it's something I want to commit that much time to.
With games already on the go, loads that I still want to buy, plus Death Stranding and Star Wars in the next two weeks, this is really dependent on the reviews being stellar.

If you've never played a Pokemon game before, then the removal of the historic Pokedex is going to make fuck all difference to you. I've dabbled over the years but haven't put significant hours into one since Gold/Silver (Gen2). I couldn't care less about the Pokedex. For me, the series has been held back for years now by clinging to handheld-only hardware and making only the most modest of technological advances. If we get something that looks like it actually belongs in the 2010s (albeit released about six weeks before the 2020s) and the price we have to pay for that is the loss of some legacy 'dex support, then I don't have a problem.

But otherwise, I'd expect this to be more of the same. They'll have a few novelty tweaks and the like (this time it seems to be cooking and those giant forms), but as others have said, the core formula doesn't change much.

I've decided I'm getting this one. That's partly to see if the move from a handheld to a hybrid has actually helped things and partly because I like the visual designs for the UK-inspired setting.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about losing some of the pokemon.

It was getting ridiculous anyway, at least this way you don't need to buy 9 games to get an entire pokedex.

Pokemon is a very good turn based RPG.

I once beat the game with my team of 4 pokemon (only catching those four).

I think it being 'easy' (some of the areas can be bad if you get caught with little to no pp left and your rival pops up to challenge you out of the blue.) is part of its charm to be fair.

True, just that those who haven't played for a long time might not know. Most folk could likely complete the game without losing a single battle, except for on the elite 4. I don't know if I'd buy a Pokémon game just for the rpg story aspect. The post game stuff is where it's at (shiny collecting, breeding, filling the Pokédex etc).

I tend to buy it for the 'story' I like finding a team I like and building them into an unstoppable force. I tend not to play PvP, as there are alot of try hards and the breading/grinding out shinys gets me bored after a few hours lol.

I do like filling out my pokedex though, something i can do again in shield.
