Just played an hour of this (Shield). Took Sobble as my starter. I'm not really the core demographic for this game, but it seems charming enough so far. The online conversation around this game is just horribly, horribly broken.

There is, among the insanity, some valid criticism. Mainly, it's really short and really easy. The sacrifices made to accommodate the wild area don't seem worth it either. That said, I can only compare to early generations.

The most difficult part is staying calm during the endless interruptions by Hop. I agree with the EG review on most counts.

Not something I would normally expect to see in a pokemon game.

40 hours is plenty long enough (IGN feature),I have played for about 3+ hours and am just on my way to the first gym. It probably is too easy for me as I have play 12+ games in the series already and on top of that I tend to fight/capture every Pokemon I see and fight every trainer battle so my Pokemon are usually overleveled (I have a lvl 21 starter already). But most of my enjoyment is in seeing/capturing them all and having them running around in the world is still really cool.

You should see what it does when it learns ‘landshark’

If it's 40 hours then amazing, but from where I am I struggle to see that, unless there's some serious end game content.

Apparently there isn't. I listened to the podcast and it's one of the things they highlighted.

Not played this but I've read comments from people who say it's 15-20 hours if you don't mess around and follow the story. Post story is a couple of hours of content. Previous games usually took me 30-50 hours depending on side quests and general messing around.

Sure if you ignore everything and just sprint from gym to gym you can probably do it in 15-20 hours. I am on route 3 before the first gym and am 5 hours in.

    @Graxlar_v3

Yeah, I took 15-20 hours to be experienced players who did the minimum required to complete the story. I think I spent 100 hours in OR/AS. I've barely touched Ultra Sun Moon so will finish it before considering Sword Shield.

In fact, it's similar to how you completed The Binding of Isaac 😁

Well, I'm just over 13 hours in and only have the first gym so far. Currently dawdling my way over to the second.

The whole "all Pokemon share xp from victories" thing massively reduces grind, doesn't it? Really, really liking that.

Yeah, it has seen me swapping out my Pokemon a lot more as it isn’t horrible trying to get the newest one I caught up to scratch.

@Rogueywon it's been in the games for a while now and while it does, it also makes the games ridiculously, laughably piss easy.

Am 9 hours in and got the first three badges, by going through and catching new Pokemon but generally avoiding grinding against Pokemon I have already caught I am able to keep my team at a decent level. I suppose cutting out the hours and hours of grinding has shortened the game but I am ok with that. I am still finding new Pokemon and trying to fit them into my far too small team... too many choices and quite enjoying the gym battles. The stadium aspect with the roar of the crowds is great.

I like team yell (and in particular Marnie) a lot, they are no team rocket but I like how they are depicted.

Beat the champion... 23 hours. I was fucking up left and right towards the end, I think I need to rebuild my entire team if I want to be any good

So not the 40 hours mentioned in the IGN thing then.

I'm happy with 23 hours. With the size of my backlog right now, even 23 hours is a bit intimidating.

Everyone plays at different speeds I suppose but I spent a good few hours in the wild area and ended with 155 Pokemon in the dex.

I just found an old download code for some Pokemon Shield DLC thing in my e-mails. Think it was a pre-order one but I got 2 codes, so it's free to whoever fancies trying it. UK/EU region locked I think : E905G59FE2LW01GG

Probably some cosmetic nonsense you don't need. Might be expired for all I know, but I wouldn't think so.

Would anyone here be willing to trade swap haunter? My son is obsessed with Pokémon and needs to trade his to get it to evolve into Gengar. If anyone would do this and make my 8 year old happy that'd be amazing!

You can catch Gengar in the wild area, pretty sure GMAX versions are in raids right now as well.
