Registered 10 years agoSome dudes on resetter that tried the project stream said that latency was noticeable but not bad at all but there was loads of compression and a fuzzy image.
Here we go, on about "watching games" again. -

No info yet, will be more info in "summer".
It's all quite interesting. Is there any word on the payment model? I'm assuming it's effectively a subscription service, but does that include all the games like Netflix? -

Not a single word on that. All the buttons said "Play Now"

If this is as good as they said it's a game changer for sure -

I'm not even kidding, it tells me exactly what I need to know about these cunts. Well done, all concerned. -

Registered 15 years agoI don't know about you lot, but I have become aware in the last few years that much like my music taste, my gaming taste is increasingly out of sync with what the youth seem to be into. And this makes me wonder if I'm even going to be able to play the next generations of 'consoles' (or whatever form gaming is now going to take).
There's lots to like about it, and a subscription based platform-agnostic gaming service sounds awesome, but if it's about influencers and streaming and multiplayer and e-sports and F2P and loot boxes and whatever the fuck else, I think I might be out. -

Is it me or does that just not seem that likely in a reliable manner? -
@You-can-call-me-kal judging by that presentation it will be. I feel completely out of touch with gaming too, everything that's mega popular nowadays looks appalling to me.
I'll wait for the Wethers OriginalStation. -

Registered 6 years agoIt definitely feels like gaming is splitting. Traditional stuff that's aimed at older gamers and stuff like fortnight for the yoof. There's still a huge amount of money to be made out of 30 something gamers so I don't think it's anything to worry about. -

Been coming for a while, to be honest. First signs for me were this utterly alien fascination with watching rather than playing.
I'll probably just end up modding the hell out of any old consoles I can find and filling them up, or mameing it. I have more than enough old games to play, and gaming for me will just become finding new ways to play them...
Probably the only way I'll ever get a switch. -

Registered 5 years agoThe part that interests me is that the controller is connected to the data centre, rather than connecting to the local workstation. Obviously won’t do that if you use some other random USB controller, but it’s an interesting way to address responsiveness. -

Registered 9 years agoNot sure how that affects responsiveness as it's still having to use the internet to move that signal. I can't see that it's any different to having it connect locally and then moved across the net.
The whole concept lives and dies on decent internet and I am not sure people have good enough connections for this to take off. -

Also urgh
One thing that surprises me now that we know of Stadia's spec is the decision to cap at 30 frames per second. With a 10.7TF graphics core and fast, server-class CPU, we would expect the Stadia port of Assassin's Creed Odyssey to run at 60fps. Based on the results we're seeing here running the PC version at 60fps, latency should drop by 33ms. The Xbox One X version is already bafflingly high in latency terms, to the point where Stadia can match it. Based on the PC results, running at full frame-rate would actually see the streaming version surpass the Xbox game.
30fps??

If I'm reading right the digital foundry article is suggesting 30 ms extra lag over a 30fps PC game.

Registered 9 years agoThat's dependant on the quality of the connection. The internet in the UK isn't the best and the whole service is relying on good latency and decent speeds. There is also the issue of data caps as 4k streaming eats through data like nobodies business.
Just don't see it being a success at this point in time. -
Thank God nobody ever asks you fucking nerds about innovations.
Yes, it will need a good internet connection. Don't you cunts have fibre
