If the Ouya was anything to go by then yeah, there are loads of people willing to spend money on something shiny calling it unique.

It's quite different from Ouya in what it does though. For the most part they're saying you don't have to buy anything. (But the games)

Use other controlelrs. Play on your laptop. Or your tablet.

So it's a bit weird. Buy access to a game.

It will be interesting to hear if it's a laggy blur once it's released. But if they manage to have Cyberpunk 2077 running at full settings with no noticeable input lag, then at least they have something. I can't help but be somewhat skeptical though.

I hope there are free demos to try.

Didn't watch it, but judging by the EG liveblog thingy, the Stadia segment at Gamescom was a laggy shitshow.

I didn't mean it was exactly like Ouya....it was an analogy.

    LMAO

Even i am not buying this thing.

I mean if it has a free trial or whatever that i can use at home i would just to test it out, but I am not installing Chrome for starters, and i have a gaming PC and a Switch so i don't see the need.

I am SUPER dubious on streaming, i've tried a lot of other ones like shadow and its crap

I wonder if Chris/Dale is gearing up his review for this?

One of the things that's making me laugh about this is Samurai Shodown is a launch title.

An SNK fighter with strict inputs that already has bad netcode, using a wireless controller, on an online streaming service?

And Stadia's tweet about it had a bunch of jargon inputs that don't relate to the game inputs at all. A true Fellow Kids moment.

Like fuck off, no one is going to be playing fighting games on your laggy service, please.

Polygon has an add for it playing today -

at one point it just says, 'play like a founder'...

    what would that even mean?

It still interesting to compare against. The Ouya had the strength of being ... something at least. Plus, for a period of time after it launched where you could think "Well, not too much now is there? But soon"

Stadia might fall flat on its face in the first week.

I don't think anyone thought that after Ouya came out. It was doa.

TBH I can't really remember the Ouya. Saw that there were plenty of documentaries on YouTube about it. Might watch one.

Might keep me from buying a Playdate..

The potential is there to do something no other platform can do currently. If everything runs on their servers they could do 1000 player pubg for instance, or 1000 player gta online. It could be the next big thing or it could crash and burn rapidly, itís google after all.

Google hasn't introduced any next big thing in a long time. Somehow, I doubt this will be the combo breaker.

Well, I don't think a playstation with an SSD or an xbox that does streaming too is going to be the next big thing either but who knows.
Maybe Apple will finally launch their AR glasses and it won't be as stupid as it sounds.

What they have done though is decisively binned products and stopped supporting them, several times. I do suspect this will be added to that list.
For sure, in the future, our current mix of buying physically and/or digitally will look like the gaming equivalent of a wax cylinder, but this is an idea thatís sound and viable at some point in the future, not now. I am looking forward to the OMFGLAG rage quit twitter posts though.

And if there's anything we core games are good at, it's predicting what the mass market is going to jump on next.

An small box that costs 100 pounds and runs mobile games on the tv will change gaming forever.
