We do but I believe it only has 50 percent coverage with the rest being on adsl. Some of the fiber is pretty dodgy as well. We aren't too bad in data caps but isn't the states a nightmare for that? |

Registered 14 years agoI also have fibre BB, which just checked gives me 35mb download. But it varies quite a bit throughout the day. It can just drop or slow sometimes if a lot of people in the house are using it.
But don't ask that question to people in places like Cornwall, or Wales (which I visit frequently because i'm from there and it's like the dial-up dark ages), or aren't people who live there allowed to play games? -

It's not innovation, this has been going on for years. I have 100mbps fibre and tried Shadow in January. It was OK. That's about it. A great option for someone with no PC, but if you have a PC it sucked in comparison.
Thank God nobody ever asks you fucking nerds about innovations.
Yes, it will need a good internet connection. Don't you cunts have fibre -

No, they're quite a backwards people and should not be allowed to play games as their malnourished minds are very suggestible

Registered 15 years agoIt's not fibre unless the optical fibre terminates in your home. BT are actually starting to roll out fibre to the home now, at a hilariously glacial pace needless to say. -

Registered 12 years agoOk, I watched the presentation and forgive my ignorance but have they actually told us what model the service will take?
The Netflix model has been bandied about but have they gone on record and confirmed it?
I mean if it's a Netflix style service then the cost is going to be prohibitive if you want the latest and greatest on there.
Could it be that it will take a form more like Gamepass with Google getting some first party stuff on there at some point but also you purchase your game digitally a full price and it's like streamed Steam.
If they were giving you maxed out PC versions of the games you wanted would that work for you?
I actually reckon I could stomach that. -

Pretty disgusting really. I live in the Spanish countryside with no fixed-line telecom connections at all and yet here they use WiMax/Lte antennas attached to your home to provide internet/phone.

Got upgraded recently actually and now getting a fairly solid 30Mbps download and around 3Mbps upload, with unlimited downloads. I can stream Netflix/Amazon in HD without any buffering/pixellation/compression at all and download stuff from PSN over 40+GB's that'll be ready in approximately 4 to 7 hours. No reason BT couldnt have invested in this type of tech or similar, especially so for rural UK communities. -

I don't know about you lot, but I have become aware in the last few years that much like my music taste, my gaming taste is increasingly out of sync with what the youth seem to be into. And this makes me wonder if I'm even going to be able to play the next generations of 'consoles' (or whatever form gaming is now going to take).
There's lots to like about it, and a subscription based platform-agnostic gaming service sounds awesome, but if it's about influencers and streaming and multiplayer and e-sports and F2P and loot boxes and whatever the fuck else, I think I might be out. -

Yeah, think you may have an issue with latency hombre, I haven't a clue on that. I'm not hugely technical but I get a Ping rate of around 30ms, don't know if that's an indication of being really bad or not for latency on a non-fixed connection. I don't play multiplayer stuff, so haven't been able to check if there's noticeable lag, particularly in fast online gaming etc.
All in all though, it's likely better than a lot of the older fixed line connections in ol'Blighty that BT couldn't be arsed to upgrade. -
