I just unlocked the first ability (won’t say what it is) and it added a whole new dimension to the combat. Its also very smooth to use and much less clunky than the abilities in Quantum Break.
The gunplay is typically Remedy, so good. But the abilities help to elevate it, and the world is incredibly reactive, with things blowing up and papers, tables and chunks of masonry flying about
Been very impressed with the destructability too......they’re giving Battlefield a run for their money here! -

Registered 16 years agoTempted by this, but really want to see a few reviews. Surprised they're cutting the review embago so close to the release date, given the whole "unknown quantity" thing. -

I got it in the post today with a sexy t shirt I'll wear when I'm doing house work or something. Can't play it for a day ish but it's remedy so it will be excellent.

Registered 10 years agoIs the story coherent? I’ve heard about it “getting weird” and that it’s quite challenging. I’m not really up for a confusing, frustrating experience. -

It's remedy. Max Payne, Alan wake, q break. The stories and characters are never what they seem.

Loving it so far but my god the frame rate on o.g. PS4 is bad when things kick off big time. Maybe three hours in.. -

Registered 14 years agoI wonder about the framerate on the standard Xbox One. But then again, it's made on the same engine as Quantum Break, and that ran pretty well... although it looked way too soft. -

Eh? I like Remedy a lot but their stories and characters are exactly as they seem. They're so on the nose and ripped from clichés they've become cross eyed.

Registered 4 years agoI like how you need to be aggressive in combat. So far it seems the only way to get health back is killing enemies a bit like in doom. -

About 3 hours in now and the story isn’t making much sense, but the characters, the acting and the setting are all top tier. You also get the feeling that it’s one of those stories that won’t make sense until the very end when they explain everything.

The very concept of having a federal bureau of control, where all the weird shit that happens in America is investigated and where all the unexplained objects and devices are stored, is great. Not massively original, but it makes the environment a constant joy to just wander around in and discover things. -
This looks great and has completely flown under my radar. I really shouldn't be buying any more games but after watching some YT vids I can't see how I can resist lol. -

Have you ever read any of the SCP Foundation wiki? It's kind of like this.

Anyway I will be picking this game up later, it looks right up my street. -

Not sure how spoilery that review is because I didn't risk it and jumped to the end to read the score and good/ bad points. He gives it a 9.5/10.
As I'm stuck at work on a sweltering Bank Holiday I treated myself to a cheeky order. Bring it on, loved Alan Wake. -

Registered 4 years agoYeah Alan wake was incredible.
This is excellent so far. Extremely bizarre so far and the FPS on PS4 is probably the worst I've played in a major release. That is surprising as I've never had those issues with previous remedy titles.
One major ocd grip is that doors open just before you get there!? No animation of the character opening. Bizzare.

Registered 18 years agoPlaying through Quantum Break at the moment and the story is good so far. I did enjoy Alan Wake a lot, but wished it had been more like its original concept, so more investigation focused, rather than combat based. -

Registered 12 years ago@ChiefGB I think the challenge comes from the fact that you don't have regenerating health - the only way to get health back is to kill enemies as they drop it. You can get into a bit of bother if you really need health but can't get to the drops, as they stay where the enemy died.
It's not frustrating though, it feels pretty well balanced so far, and though you do get plopped back at your last control point when you die, your progress through mission objectives is saved, as are any collectibles you picked up. -

There is a tiny bit of slow-down whenever there are huge explosions, but nothing even close to game breaking. -

Registered 12 years agoRather strangely, the only time I've seen drops are after unpausing the game - it always goes really framey for a few seconds, before clearing up.
Haven't noticed any other performance issues yet, even with things exploding all around me. -

@Fake_Blood Can't download on PC, but will report on performance tomorrow (unless DF beats me to it). It's an EGS exclusive, sadly. Not being a hammerhead shark, I'm on a 16:9 monitor.
Edit: It's apparently just over 60 gigs on PC. That lack of a preload is really, really going to hurt people who don't have high-end broadband.
