Cheers. I think I'll pop out today and pick it up as I just finished A plague tale and though they're not similar at all I'm in the mood for some weird and dark..

Think I'm about to drop this.

Trying to do a sidequest that takes place deep below Research. The enemies here hit like a fucking truck (the whole game feels like it was balanced around the player having about 4x more health than you actually have). They can hit you with homing projectiles from huge range. And if you die, you have to go right back up, do a long platforming-drop sequence and a shitload of running, plus some Hiss trash mobs most times, to get back, because there's no save point down there.

    Fucking shit design.

I'd leave that side quest for now, those enemies are likely 3 or 4 levels higher than where you'd be in the main storyline and there's a later bit you won't be able to do yet.

Got it done in the end. Still shit design, though.

Content roadmap is out. Photo mode in the autumn, new endgame mode 'expeditions' in Dec, then the expansions follow next year: Early 2020 for Foundation, mid-year for AWE.

Any opinions on performance post patch? Itís only out in PS4 as it turns out they really are taking their exclusive content all the way with this one 🙄

I'm playing on the One S and despite some horrendous frame drops I think its absolutely great. A weird combination of the twilight zone, x-files, Fringe and...something else I can't remember.
I couldn't recommend it to anyone that remotely cares about performance though

Even on x it runs like a dog too often tbh. I was playing this until gears 5 came along and then I had no interest in picking it back up, now Iím waiting for the timed exclusive patch 🙄

yeah, I'm going to get a Pro or X in a couple of months and I'm tempted to leave it until then. Finished the Gears 5 campaign and that ran fine. I do have a shedload of indie games that will no doubt run great as well, so that should keep me going

PC version patched on Tuesday evening. Some mild performance increases, but nothing to write home about.

@Baihu1983 There are clearly some data-streaming issues here. Even running from an NVMe SSD, I get occasional stutter when the game loads assets - for instance after loading up, resuming after a pause or when new enemies are being spawned.

Turns out Epic paid just under ten million for Control exclusivity.

Bleh still waiting for a decent performance patch on pc before I play. The texture streaming really pisses me off.

    For clarity: 9.49M Euro.

Remedy have previously said Control's budget was somewhere between 20 and 30 million euro, so it's a decent chunk of the production budget.

That alone could make a big difference for a development team. Especially because it doesn't look like Control sold a lot so far.

Also, in context, it doesn't sound like that much. I'm sure smaller indie games don't get nearly as much money, and there aren't that many big exclusives on the service yet (though I'm sure BL3 alone must have got at least 30 millions). Considering that Fortnite made something like $3 billions last year, it actually looks like a small investment for them.

It makes sense too, because Fortnite can't be successful forever, already we have heard reports of decreased revenue over 2018, and when the well dries up they could be in trouble. Far better for them to invest money (a lot of money, in fact even the majority of the money) to establish themselves as a serious PC store and keep the income steady in the long term. They don't gain anything from letting those billions rot away in a bank anyway.

Put in a good few hours on this over the course of today. Feeling a little less fragile now, with full health upgrades and a health +50% mod, but still not a massive fan of the combat.

Don't think I have anything else to do this evening, so many manage to complete it.

Find this all a bit meh tbh. Spending way too much time running around empty corridors, and combat feels a bit....uninvolved, or distant or something. Just doesn't feel right somehow.

Definitely a lack of variety. it can get a bit fun when it gets really busy and you're smashing up scenery all over the place, but it seems to happen far too infrequently.

It's a bit weirdly inconsistent visually as well. The environments mostly look like something out of a early '00s FPS, with objects being weirdly scaled and poorly textured, but then they'd do something super cool and amazingly detailed. Sometimes the facial animations and models will be hyper-realistic, other-times it looks like Resident Evil 2. The original one.

And jesus christ, the story is utter bollocks. I know it's a game, and that's kind of par for the course but this stuff is fucking *awful*.

I'm going to leave it for a bit. The combat is just not fun. I love the world/story, but I've reached the start of chapter 8 and it's just shit. I wouldnt mind that they throw horde after horde of bastard enemies at you, but at least save the fucking game after each one.

They need to patch the checkpointing. I have a pretty high tolerance for difficulty, but this isn't hard, it's just frustrating as fuck.

I thought the combat was great with a mouse and keyboard but it also kind of felt designed for it. It's very headshot focused, couldn't imagine doing it on a controller.

I had a ton of fun with it on a controller, but yeah - I gave up trying to hit headshots a lot of the time as it was difficult to be that precise. Just ended up aiming at centre mass and blasting away.

Yeah, the checkpointing is terrible. I found the main questline checkpoints irritating, but some of the side-missions are fucking dreadful in that respect, with no checkpoints at all.

Couldn't imagine playing this on controller, enemies move fast and headshots are pretty important.

I've played on controller and K&M on PC. It's very generous with the auto-aim for controller. Or I'm just fucking awesome. Which I doubt.

Turns out I was about 30 minutes from the end so managed to polish it off just now.

I liked it, mainly for the world-building, which is superb, I like that it seemingly didn't care how cheesy our insane it was.

But the combat was really poor IMO. I just didn't enjoy it. I can see how it would work better on PC. Terrible checkpointing certainly didnt help.

And it's really linear, despite appearing to be a Metroidvania, exploration is hardly ever that satisfying.
