I'm starting to think ray-tracing is lost on me. I'm really not seeing anything to get excited about.

Something about this that gives me strong Headhunter vibes. I hope there's a m0t0rb1k3.

Try standing in a corridor next to an office, turn ray tracing off/on.

Not sure if I just need to get further into the game (Iíve just unlocked the Launch ability) but... visually, it seems a bit bland to me. I feel like Iím missing something. And I am on PS5 Graphics mode - I checked.

Maybe itís just all the flat office walls and concrete, but nothing really feels that inspiring to look at. The Last of Us 2 on a vanilla PS4 was a far better looking game. Maybe itís the art style and the character models and animation... expressionless faces and dead eyes abound...

Iím actually quite enjoying the story and gameplay, so thereís that.
I think it's a stunning looking game overall. The ray tracing, the Old House shape shifting, the materials etc. I think the character models are just "ok". My main gripe though would be the animation. It really is dreadful.

I don't think graphics are a huge jump over Quantum Break on OneX, ray tracing aside, but that also had shockingly poor animation. Love Remedy games but don't think they've ever managed to implement decent animation in any of their titles.

Its actually quite easy to mistakenly download the standard version so I'd check that as I made the mistake.

If you want to see a good example of Ray Tracing in action, there is a side mission involving clocks that looks absolutely fantastic.

What the fuck am I playing here? It makes Death Stranding look po faced.

Gonna have to +1 the raytracing being a non starter for me so far this gen. I've been relentlessly flicking between the two modes in the hour I've played and it really doesn't make a difference that can justify the last gen frame rate.

Finally completed my original play through at half 5 this morning, canít believe itís taken me so long, donít think I enjoyed it enough to reply the series X version despite the bump in visuals and performance

I don't really think it's very special looking at all if I'm honest, in either mode. The graphics mode makes a bit of a difference to the lighting but it's not worth the chop in framerate, especially with the floaty character animation. But if I'm to understand correctly, the magic is in the destructible environments/particle effects etc which it hasn't really flexed at me in full yet.

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but the gunplay feels quite punchy so that's the main box ticked for me, especially if the environmental stuff comes into play more.

Just wait until the ashtray maze. Your mind will be blown and you will have an erection without even knowing.

Yeah, as a huge fan of the game on last gen I must admit I'm a bit disappointed in how the PS5 version looks. The RT is great in some spots, but overall it's a bit flat somehow. We've been spoilt in just a couple of months with other games. Still plays fantastically though, I can see me playing right through again.

From the DF video the next gen settings seemed to be generally a mix of low and medium.

Apologies if this has been covered already, but does the Ultimate Edition run any better on a base PS4 than the standard version did? Has it been optimised at all?

Only just started and am disappointed by the gunplay. I guess the super powers later on will compensate.

I find that weird, I really do. From the first moment I pulled the basic pistol's trigger and popped a red dude's head into powdery spray I was hooked.

@PazJohnMitch even after you gain more powers, you'll still rely a lot on shooting. That said, there are mods later in the game that will make the gunplay a bit easier to handle.

I was hoping to like Congtrol more, but it's almost weird how they mixed some quite fun aspects with some very boring ones, it's a schizophrenic game. It's not nearly as bad as Quantum Break for sure, but I thought Alan Wake was overall better. Not by much though. This is still Remedy and it shows.

Shoot fast, it doesn't matter if not every bullet hits, they go down fairly easily and the gun recharges pretty quickly too. And once you've got launch, just alternate that with a full clip of the pistol. Be aggressive.

Yeah, one thing to remember is that you shouldn't treat this as a cover shooter. Your health won't recharge much by its own. You are better off staying out in the open, moving around a lot to gather health items, and using suppressing fire whenever you are not throwing concrete around.

I didnít find the gunplay difficult. Quite the opposite I found it dull, far too easy and the responsiveness a bit off. (I was in 60fps mode).

Are there difficulty settings? I didnít acknowledge one so I am probably on Normal. (Not played a shooter on less than hard in over 20 years).

I found the how to heal tutorial a bit strange too as I was at full health at the time.

No difficulty settings I don't think. Fair enough. The challenge does pick up, but horses for courses.

Yeah. I am literally at the very beginning, so cannot really expect any challenge yet.

Yeah, the challenge does pick up with some bastard boss fights thrown in. Plus it's worth playing through just from the stonk on you'll get doing the ashtray maze.

It's been comically easy up to where I'm at, but the important part is there's a real weight and punchiness to the shooting. It'll keep me hooked for a playthrough even if I ultimately don't think it's all that by the end.

    Me too.

Right bunch of weird bastards in here. Game is flipping brilliant. Weirdos. Bunch of weirdos.

I jest of course, but I would say for those unsure, stick with it. There are some bloody awesome moments.

So if I keep playing past the beginning the game is good.
I haven't like any of there games since max Paine 2
And well max Paine 3 is better than most there output since and that wasn't even made by them

If you don't think it's good at all from the beginning then I wouldn't bother.

If you're enjoying it but perhaps with some reservations I would keep going.

@wuntyate to be honest I haven't even got a gun/powers it just seemed weird at the beginning .
If it turns into a max Paine type game with powers it sounds like it could be good
