And the ray tracing seemed rubbish but seeing all the praise I was thinking it must get better

Up as far as the side mission where you fight the fridge. My only disappointment is it wasn't called 'The Smeg'

Word of warning that has probably already been covered.

Bought and downloaded the ultimate edition in the sale on my ps5 back in December.

Went to the check for updates button to be told it was the most recent version. Awesome, I jump in, half an hour later Iím just not feeling that this is the upgraded version.

Turns out I needed to go the psn store and download the new ďfreeĒ version of the game. Fuck sake.

Now downloading 50gb. Just in case it catches anyone else out.
  • Deleted user 6 February 2021 14:26:24
@PrivateFloyd Well it's a completely different build of the game (that is PS5 native) that was only released last week, so it stands to reason you need to download it again.

I'm not sure what you're downloading though, my install of the PS5 version is 25GB.

@GumboVariations yeh. The PS5 version is a lot smaller, I thing that's 49 something GB.

I already had the PS4 on on machine so deleted before downloading.

Quite enjoying this so far. I really tried to get used to it in the quality mode as I do like RT but performance mode is so much more playable. Prior to this gen, I never really appreciated quite how much difference doubling the FPS would make.

One thing slightly bothering me is the obtuse narrative. I'm fine with mystery and things merely being hinted at provided there is actually a satisfying explanation at some point. Is there one?

@muddyyfunster opinions vary, but imo... nope. In the end it all boils down to an unknown evil entity that wrecked shit because of... reasons?

Maybe the DLCs explain it better, but I couldn't play those as they weren't part of the Game Pass package.

It's a tough one. There's no bullet pointed list explaining exactly what's going on, but by the end of it I had a definite handle on it. It's batshit. It's cool. They could make a dozen more games in this universe and I'd play it.

But there's no "THE BUTLER DID IT!" moment where it's all neatly wrapped up. :)

Oh wow, the Expedition can royally fuck right off. Wasted 90min trying to complete the first one, never going near it again. Bollox design.

Do you find your aim improving in this game if you imagine the enemies are all Irish Travellers?

Can you jump straight to the AWE DLC in this or do you need an endgame character to get through it? Played on PC originally but feel like trying out the DLC quickly.

    /edit
Ignore me, would've made more sense to just Google it

First time player here, absolutely loving the game- the whole SCP thing is really well done, and I love the brutalist architecture/old office vibe. I've just cleared the grot out of the tubes to stop the generator blowing up, upgraded a few abilities and made a pistol that now turns into a shotgun.

All the little notes and multimedia bits have really got my obsessive explorer juice going. Brilliant game.

Just had a scrap with Psycho Mantis in the mailroom. Absolutely fucking bewildered at whatever is supposed to be going on but it's doing it for me up to now.

It keeps reminding me of Fringe for whatever reason. First thing that comes to mind.

This is one of those games where I don't think it plays bad at all at 30fps. Still seems to be quite smooth. Not sure about all this spunking about ray tracing though over the past few years. It's been my first hands on experience with it with this and a couple of other games over the past month or so and I'm a bit "meh" about it all. We've had reflections in windows and mirrors before. get over it.

I set out fully intending to play exclusively in graphics mode, spent the first 3 or 4 hours enjoying the detail, then thought I'd give performance mode a very quick look...

    Bye bye shiny.

I think I spent the first 30 mins switching between RT and Performance before deciding that 30fps for this game was fine. Maybe it will get busier and more useful to go 60fps later but there is no doubt for me that the RT adds something extra to the brutalist concrete and glass vibe.

Same here. Like I said earlier, I know what I am missing when I play with 30fps, namely, 60fps. No surprises there. In performance mode, though, I am tempted to switch back to RT all the time to see the shinies.

I wonder if it was technically possible to let you change modes on the fly, during gameplay? Itís not like itís reloading currently, or doing anything other elaborate, when you change modes in the menu.

Finished this yesterday - just popped on to say Ashtray Maze was excellent, most enjoyable part of the game by far. Almost worth slogging through a game I thought merely decent to get to it!

Loved the main game. But I got stuck into the DLC Foundation and got SO bored by it. Kind of gave up on all things Control after that. Never played Alan Wake either so the AWE DLC doesn't hold much excitement for me, and Foundation has killed my interest in the game now sadly.

I finished the Foundation last night. Pretty meh. Astral Plane style locations in games really don't work for me, they always feel like a shortcut for not having the dev time to put more detailed and unique locations in. Was pretty yawn inducing.

OG XBone? I thought it was just the sleep mode messing the game up.

I have a love hate relationship with this game, I played it solidly for days, loving the combat, story and supernatural sci-fi setting but i kept hitting crazy difficulty spikes which sometimes took me back to a checkpoint that meant a 5 minute hike before getting back into the action and then 30 mins of combat before I was back where I was. Old school checkpointing and enemy spawning can FRO,

I eventually got bored and quit. I hated the crappy red over-saturation in combat too, all it did was obscure the enemy and seemed a cheap mechanic just to up the difficulty level.
