Me too. None of the other arcade racers have cut it with me and I've lost interest quite quickly. It'll be a bit rough around the edges I suspect but should be good fun.

Registered 14 years agoI've got this pre-ordered so glad to see it's turned out well, I do like a good arcade racer, mainly because I'm shit at real racers. -

And it looks too fast. The early Burnout games were fast, but you couls still believe you're in a car. This looks like a futuristic racer that features car-shaped pod racers.
(could be that it's just all those go-faster post processing effects)

That's exactly what I thought when watching the video in the EG first look a while back.

Just checked a Giantbomb gameplay video from the weekend, nope still the same.
Maybe I'm missing some hidden qualities somewhere but I genuinely can't see them. Like, at all.
I mean, the car movements alone appear to lack any sort of physics model. It looks dreadful and I'd rather replay older Burnouts than buy this.

Registered 15 years agoI'm not liking the visibility when driving. I get that the motion blur is part and parcel of Burnout to some extent, but it just looks way OTT. All the videos it looks like I can't see anything up ahead. It's like Fast RMX.
In fact, it was more a 3/Revenge thing looking at footage. 2 (which will always be the best in the series) wasn't quite so crazy with it.

Registered 16 years agoThe videos of this make it look like it's got the kind of physics you'd get on a PS1 arcade racer. The vehicles in Burnout all had a weight to them and a general resistance to drifting with the weight dictating the line you took through the corner, learning that line was the skill in the game.
The lighter cars would take a tighter line so you would need to start wider on the corner, whereas as the heavies cars would pull you wider so you had to start closer to the middle of the track.
These just dart and weave about the track like they weight 5 grams and it looks wrong from a burnout fan's perspective. the game may be a lot of fun but if you slap a label of spiritual successor to something it needs to look and feel the same, this doesn't. -

Registered 16 years agoWas tempted by this, but the janky-looking videos and the fact that the PC version is Epic Store exclusive have put me off for now. Neither of those alone would have been enough to put me off, but in combination... -

Registered 13 years agoThere's something off about the way you seem to be constantly approaching the prow of a gentle hill, so you can't see much of the road ahead of you. -

Hmmm, that's disappointing. I can handle 30fps if steady. May wait for the price drop.
DF article is up - 30fps AND inconsistent frame pacing on the povvo consoles, fuck that. -

Registered 12 years agoSo I’ve spent about 90 minutes with it on an OG PS4 and I really like it. It’s very far from perfect and I’m a big fan of Burnout so not unbiased, but it’s really scratching that itch for me.
It feels ruddy fast and the AI is on you if you make a mistake.
The handling is very arcadey with the car gripping the road but thats classic Burnout in my view.
My base console at 30fps experience is fine. Did not feel gimped. It must be jaw dropping on a Pro or an X. Some very occasional hitching but quite rare.
Outside of the racing itself, the presentation is rudimentary by today’s standards. Menus are very basic, next to no animations etc.
Total lack of in game music just feels weird but Spotify for PS4 works. Played it with The Prodigy on and it was great.
It’s a 7/10 game but better than that if you loved Burnout 2 & 3. -

Registered 10 years agoWatched GiantBomb's quick look and the cars looked way too floaty and the crashes sucked -
Honestly don't know why the game doesn't run at 60 frames on all platforms. Doesn't seem overly cutting edge to me graphically, based on the videos. -

Registered 12 years agoI’d say the crashing is inconsistent. Sometimes the impacts feel somewhat underwhelming, but occasionally you’ll see another wreck arcing into the air dramatically and zip under the falling debris and it feels utterly epic.
As I say it’s very far from perfect but there’s fun to be had and it feels like the basis for something really good -
Another 90 minutes with it tonight. It’s definitely holding my attention. The sense of speed is incredible and 99% of the time frame rates hold up well on my standard PS4.
I have seen some hitching in tunnel sections and some occasional bugs - fell through the map, ended up slowly chugging for a section at single digits FPS but these have been very isolated incidents.
No regrets here. I’m having a blast
