I guess I'm too thick to understand it, could someone, who has already taken advantage of the offer, please break this down for me?

My current XBL Gold sub expires Oct, 2019 and my GamePass sub expires July 2020. What can I expect to gain by taking the £1 offer?

You'd have Gold and GamePass until Nov 2020.

@Derblington Thanks! Why Nov 2020 though? How do they combine to that date?

It's the remaining months of your Gold and GP subs added together.

Yeah despite having limited time for xb I have jumped on this. Not having game pass at all it kind of makes sense to get game pass and live for 13 months for 40 quid to add to the 6 months I already have left of live.

Have straight away downloaded outer wilds. Played an hour and am already hooked and looked forward to jumping straight back into it this evening.

What derbs said, the fact they combine means if you stock up an Extra year of gold you basically get another year of gamepass for £1.

This will obviously be their strategy; I wonder how successful they'll be with it. Xbox has certainly monopolised my time because of Game Pass.

Absolutely. I'm tempted to do it to have the option, and I rarely turn my console on. GamePass has 10 or so I'd like to play or try, even if to see if I'd like to purchase to play properly on PS4.
    It's a very good deal.

@Carlo It's 1803. Looks like it needs to be 1903, but when I run a check for updates it comes back saying I'm all up-to-date.

Do I need to be part of the Insider programme for this? Recent news stories suggest not as 1903 is meant to have been pushed out widely. Just not for me, perhaps?

Finally used the 12 month code I got in a GAME sale more than two years ago for about £25. Obviously wish I'd got more now.

No active subs at all so recurring billing on the dash gave me another month as I'd already switched that off after a recent £1 a month offer thing. Then did the £1 upgrade via the xbox one and it appears that added another month on.

1:1 conversion ratio so a renewal date of 9th August 2020. If I got another live code and tried to do it again I think the conversion rate is lowered. If I've got this right and you feel flush and know you are staying with Microsoft in the future then stack up 1st on gold subs then redeem the offer for ultimate.

Renewing my sub that had lapsed for a total of £116 for 3 years was a risk I was willing to make on this new Microsoft proposition.

I'd say that's my gaming sorted on XBox and PC, but I think this is really what this is all about. Microsoft is trying to get a foothold on PC gaming and wanting to take control over the likes of Steam, Epic, Origin etc.

Unfortunately, XBox on PC will be yet anohter game launcher we'll have to have for the foreseeable.

But it this price, it's easily worth it.

The Xbox beta app on pc is a lot less shit than Windows store. Had a go on football manager 2019 earlier and browsing through and installing a game didn't make me want to throw myself off a cliff, so definitely an improvement.

I had to spend the afternoon down a rabbit hole of google search results to find out I had to install the Windows 10 1903 update alongside yet another Xbox app just to install half the games.

I now have 'Store', 'Xbox' & 'Xbox (Beta)'. 3 separate apps that all do the same thing - badly. Neither of them recognise my game SSD. So I end up having to install to the mechanical storage drive.

It's always 1 step forward 2 steps back with Microsoft. As soon as it hits full price again it will be getting cancelled.

@bananaforscale Try going into windows settings/system/storage. Click choose where new content is saved and change apps to your ssd. After I did that all my drives started showing in the xbox app settings.

While I agree the store in general sucks, the pc game pass stuff is a beta, some issues are to be expected. Finding and fixing them is the point of a beta

Supermarket Shriek is pretty fun, but I don't understand why the hub world runs so badly when the graphics look like Dreamcast material.

The actual courses run well, so I guess it doesn't matter. And any game with a Superhot parody is great in my book.

Soooo... if I've got all of the Metro games on the backlog, should I try those first or jump straight into Exodus?

Personally, I'd do the others first. Not only for story, but they're smoother and (imho) better than Exodus. I've found Exodus pretty un-engaging.

Thanks, they're already on the list, albeit after I get through some of the 3 rouguelikes I've discovered a taste for, and then blazed through Wolfenstein 2 on easy for the plot.

I agree. The only slightly weird thing was how worried it got when I selected a different ssd to install games on. I havenít tried but I suspect it will be very difficult to install games on different drives.

@hedben2013 I've started the first 2 numerous times but couldn't get into them. Finished Exodus and loved it. Probably because Exodus has more of an open world feel to it. Looks stunning if you've got an X.

Bridge constructor portal is worth a try especially if you liked portal. Looking at trying the turning test next and then metro exodus.

Does this £1 upgrade thing still work?

The gist is I just need to have as much gold membership as I can (upto a max of 36 months) then apply for the offer and it'll convert that into an ultimate pass?

Does it work if I just have gamepass?

My remaining month of Gamepass converted into an extra month of Ultimate. As I don't have or plan to get an Xbox system I will either cancel or switch to PC Game Pass when it runs out so it wasn't worth me gaming the system when that is going to be £3.99 a month.

I stupidly did the £1deal without checking when my sub is up for gold, bloody August....

What would happen if you apply a year Gold code now, after the £1 ultimate has been added?

@Fourwisemen Additions after are at a reduced rate.

    1 month Gold = 20 days Ultimate (3:2)
    3 months Gold = 2 months Ultimate (3:2)
    12 months Gold = 4 months Ultimate (3:1)

If only lived up to your nom de plume ;)

I have 26 months of the deal. As you are probably aware you can stack 3 years of Gold and then take out the £1 deal.
