Yeah, I signed up recently (just for a month) to try it out. It's a good option and it has games but it doesn't have a lot of newly released stuff, which is the main selling point of GamePass. The platform is already in place though - the PS3 streaming works really well (providing you've got the speeds to support it) and you can download PS2 and 4 games.
@Derblington They've 750 games supposedly. They just don't push it very much for some reason.
But GamePass is killing it lately, and Sony aren't pushing Now particularly hard. -

Registered 13 years ago@Derblington Sony have their own reasons to avoid that though. MS is in a bit of a tough spot with first party games, and while they could be successfully selling stuff like Forza and Gears, there wouldn't be much else. So this kind of model works out better for them. Stuff like Crackdown 3 wouldn't be seeing a lot of money without it.
Sony nowadays can potentially sell upwards of 10 million copies for any given first party game, provided they put some serious effort behind it (and lately, they do). If they gave them away with a subscription, their short term revenue would be hurt. Perhaps their long term revenue too, if people started thinking they could just subscribe rather than pay $60 for each game.
I'm sure they will be unable to avoid it in the future - I can see subscriptions becoming commonplace for everyone. But it makes sense for Sony (and even moreso Nintendo) to hold out as much as they can.

Registered 7 years agoI've installed Neon Chrome and Moonlighter, figure I'll really binge on roguelikes after completing (and loving) Void Bastards. I'm on 3 months for a quid on game pass atm and it's an absolute bargain at that price. Not sure if I'd pay full price, but based on the past month or so I'm considering looking for a discounted yearly sub. -

Registered 13 years agoI got lucky and managed to keep Neon Chrome for free back when my PS Plus subscription expired. Never tried it though. Judging from all the comments here, it sounds like I've been missing out? -

Registered 15 years agoYes, but... the average consumer buys 1.4 games a year, and they make up a much, much larger audience than us. Getting them into a PSNow sub means that more money goes to Sony than when Joe Average buys FIFA or CoD, and then they might be playing more because its available, and then buying DLC to pad out the gameplay of the games they like.
We would be subbed but still picking up titles on the side that aren't going into the offer because we have the need to play everything asap.
It also means that, due to the strong 1st Party library, the offering, when supplemented with 3rd party, would be pretty killer. But it doesn't have to mirror GamePass exactly - things like Spider-man and SFV are 2nd party so may have different rules anyway.

Registered 11 years agoJust upgraded my Gold only sub to Game Pass Ultimate for £1 until the end of May 2020.
Couldn't have come at a better time, me and my brother were sharing his game pass sub which expires soon. So basically just got Game Pass for another year for £1.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Have to hand it to Microsoft lately, they aren't messing about. -

Registered 15 years agoCan you downgrade to just gamepads easily enough at the end?
I don't use Gold at all, but wondering about getting a gold sub to give me another year of gamepass as it's cheaper, but would want to downgrade back to just gamepass at the end. -

Registered 11 years agoCan't see an option to on either the Xbox or the website (only to change the length of the recurring plan), but worst case scenario you just cancel or let it lapse at the end and take out the standard Game Pass sub again. -

Log into the Microsoft website and there's a section called "subscriptions and payments" (or something like that. You can manage and cancel each subscription separately. -

Doesn't work with a 3 month gold pass, converted to 1 months ultimate so didn't make a great deal of difference. I'd be interested to know what 12m converts to..

Registered 7 years ago@deez Adding up your current gold and game pass subscriptions and converting to ultimate is bound to work, they said as much already I think. I'm less certain you can buy more gold after doing the ultimate for £1 offer, if you got excited and jumped into it like I did.
My dashboard literally has the 3 subscriptions showing it already- gold, which was paid up until 4/4/20, status: cancelled; game pass, which was paid up until 14/07/19, status: cancelled; ultimate next charge 8/6/20, for which I paid £1 -
Access to Gears 5 Ultimate (and thus early access) is a nice touch to the Ultimate Game Pass sub.
Would be nice to see this extended to all "Ultimate" editions of first party games when they're released.
