Why wouldn’t they do 4K HDR?

This isn’t some kids service. Disney are on a mission to be the biggest entertainment brand in the world. I would expect Disney+ to be the most expensive and high quality sub there is.

It will be less. At least at first.

It’s not confirmed for the UK any time soon though is it? So all a bit moot.

Well that looks shit hot. More excited about this than than The Rise of Skywalker.

Everything finds it's way into streams within about 24 hours so can't see me getting a Disney sub.

That said I forgot to end my Amazon Prime free trial so I am paying for that and haven't logged in for weeks.

Ewan McGregor is back playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in a TV series. This could also be very interesting. Scripts have been written and they’ll start shooting soon.

    Looks great.

Sadly the UK isn't listed in the first wave of countries to launch in November. It'll be a staggered launch globally.

Pirating is gonna go through the roof for this thing.

Also, this is the beginning of the end for content to own. I reckon The Mandalorian will never see a Blu-ray release.

Where it gets interesting is whether they’ll carry on selling their content digitally on other platforms like iTunes.

Rental only for the rest of the world at launch is one direction.

I've read this sentence a few times now and I still don't get it? :D

Ok. Read it again if you're experiencing cognitive difficulty.

Nope. And I'm far too sober. Maybe a comma would help?

I didn’t get it either, what would be rental only?
  • Deleted user 24 August 2019 15:50:29
    One Direction apparently?

All the Disney properties - Marvel, SW and traditional disney stuff - would be exclusive to stream on Disney+ but available to rent elsewhere (is how I'm reading it).
  • Deleted user 24 August 2019 15:54:17
    Oh, okay.

Is there anything to back this notion? Seems a bit counter intuitive considering they'll want ot tie people onto their platform.

Does Netflix rent or sell properties via other channels?

They own enough to bolster it already, with all the Fox stuff, and Nat Geo.

Yeah Dusney+ launches in the US and some other regions in November. The rest of the world get rental only on Disney+ content in the usual places for a specified period, until the launch in the next phase of countries.

They can't say no to rental money when The Mandalorian launches surely.
  • Deleted user 24 August 2019 16:03:49
Well, it's a question of cannibalising and also of diluting the appeal of your streaming platform if the big property created to promote said platform is also available elsewhere.

Oh Jesus. Let me break this down for you into specifics.

Disney+ launch the service in the US and other selected territories in November. The Mandalorian becomes available to stream immediately in those locations. (The UK is not one of those countries) Simultaneously, the UK and the rest of the world, who do not have immediate access to Disney+, get to rent Disney+ content on other streaming platforms such as Google, Apple or Sky for that period until launch in those outstanding areas, such as the UK.

Or, fuck it and use a VPN in November.

    Got it?

    This guy gets it:

"Issues like online piracy and VPNs will also be more likely when big-name shows are hitting the US without a way to access them abroad – though Disney could always license some of its shows to UK providers (say, Sky TV) in the interim."

Okay, I get it. I misread your last post.

I didn't misread your one direction post. That was gibberish.

Rental does make sense. Worldwide launch would make more sense but I guess logistics are an issue there.

A worldwide launch of the biggest streaming platform ever launched would be impossible if only from a licencing point of view.

Nah, you were just being a little pissy and obtuse if you had followed on from Kal's post.

Yeah, I guess so. Big ships and all that.

And dude, you started pissy. I was just lightly yanking on your chain and you told me I should read your autocorrect fail again, totally swerving the fact that it made no sense.

I still don't know what one direction has to do with it.

All the Netflix and Amazon exclusive shows have been made available on other digital services after enough time has passed, and they also all eventually get released on blu-ray. Don't see why Disney wouldn't do the same.

I've got 10Tb left on my media server so even if I don't 'own' anything I'll have my own copies.

Not going to feel guilty when they're unlikely to provide a decent service to Thailand in a long time.

As they annouce stuff is getting added to sonarr :D
