The ratio of good to poor Star Wars films is so low that you can’t possibly be surprised if whatever comes next isn’t as good as you want. There’s only 2 3/4 really good films, a couple that are ok and the rest are a bit rubbish, out of 10 made so far. More if you include the Ewok films. |

Registered 10 years agoDo not really want to go there but are they talking about time travel as Disney seems to have this obsessive fascination with its de-aging sfx? 😬 -

I find the RLM relationship with Star Wars a bit weird. They owe their success in large part to dissecting the movies in minute detail, but they've gotten to the point where don't even remember the names of movies and they're calling lightsabers "laser swords".
Which is not to say that they're wrong or anything. It's just slightly jarring to see the transition they've made from obsessive fandom, to jaded mockery of obsessive fandom.
(Love their shows though, particularly Half in the Bag and Best of the Worst)

Registered 18 years agoWeren't they referred to as laser swords in The Last Jedi?
I've come to realize that I interpret some of the things that really grate people who don't like TLJ in a completely different way.
Luke didn't abandon the Force. He became a true master and found his own way. He was critical of older styles for sure but I didn't see it as him abandoning it.
We also don't know who Rey's parents were. She saw nothing conclusive and I never took Kylo Rens words as anything but bullshit.
I have up on the RLM thing after they expressed their full belief in both of those topics. -

Registered 14 years ago@Mola_Ram The misnaming of well known Star Wars stuff is a thing they do to poke fun. Well, Rich may genuinely not know/care about the real names for stuff, but Mike certainly does.
The time travel stuff is alarmingly plausible, mainly because Disney have to milk the crap out of the franchise. And they make way more money out of new numbered entries. Star Wars is Empire, Jedi, Force, Rebels etc., but all of those things were concluded in Episode 6. Simply unashamedly recreating it all "hasn't worked", so what do they do? Now that the spin off idea is winding down, how to they go back to the well with future numbered releases? It's a compelling argument.
On the other hand, you could bring a lot of that stuff back by resurrecting Palpatine, he installs himself at the top of the First Order and it becomes the Empire again. -

Registered 14 years ago@Tonka I personally agree about Rey's parentage. But Luke definitely abandoned the Jedi/the Force, he literally says the Jedi should end. -

Registered 18 years agoI don't see that as him giving up on the Force. As in him personally giving up, he just see things differently.
I can't remember why he decided to train Rey, but it's also not a thing someone who has given up would do.
Giving up would be him not knowing anything about it. "Whaaäa? The Force? I haven't thought about that shit since the victory celebration on Endor. Sorry love, can't help you."
Instead he's been shacked up next to the official Jedi library on a secret Jedi island, learning how to Force project across the Galaxy.
Also arriving at the conclusion that the Jedi need to end in order to break the wheel.
How is that giving up on the Force? -

Why does it look like the poster for an animated film? -

Registered 10 years agoIt is a great image tbh, there’s fairly open talk about Rey turning dark and an image has been shown of her looking angry in a black hood and a red double ended lightsaber, presumably going back to her staff style she had to begin with. And they have hinted that she’s made a progressive journey by the end of the trilogy. It’s certainly an obvious path that’s been discussed from the very beginning.
Of course We know enough by now to take any announcements as likely misdirection, certainly when jj is involved.
Either way they are talking a good talk over the film this weekend, love to see some new footage, maybe another bts video like they’ve done before. -

Registered 17 years agoWell, if JJ did do a "Fuck it!" why not do it? Makes a lot more sense than time travel.
I read about the footage shown and it does sound like it's really stunning. It's also got (in voice only) Rey talking to the Emperor.
Why the hell not eh? Bring Palpatine back in the first 30 minutes and have all manner of chaos. -

Registered 12 years agoNo way is Disney gonna turn the new Star Wars Princess to the dark side. It'll be a vision or a dream.
Guess it could be a clone. Apparently, Vader breathes heavy in the D23 trailer too. -

Registered 14 years ago@BinaryBob101 maybe she'll turn to the dark side and redeem herself at the end, all in one movie. It would be a new record, but this is Disney we're talking about. Gonna keep upping the ante. -

Registered 12 years agoMaybe she'll just turn to the Dark Side and get it on with a resurrected Emperor. I, for one, would love to see Ian McDiarmid's Palpatine sex gurn. -
Obviously what will happen is Rey will be close to defeat, facing a massive First Order army and the Knights of Ren. All hope is lost and the resurrected Emperor is cackling in her ears.
Then Broomstick Kid will appear and open lots of portals from which will charge Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Wedge, Poe, some Ewoks, Porkins, the Endor commandoes, a few snowspeeders, Spock, loads of old-school X-Wings, Yoda, Jar-Jar, Lando's bum-faced co-pilot, Lando, the cast of Rogue One and Black Panther.
Battle ensues (including a super scene where the girls join up to kick some ass) and the good guys win. Kylo dies but not before he says sorry to Han and gives him a big hug. Luke goes back to Tatooine to find Owen and Beru have returned too. Chewie roars. Credits. -
