I think it should prompt you again if you just connect the controller to the console with a cable. If not, have fun digging around the menus!

You have to tell the PS5 to forget the controller, then plug it in again. Quite annoying

Yeah tried that and they didnít update?

Iím still not 100% sure why Sony make everything so obtuse...

Ah yes, you have to disconnect from the internet first too.

One thing that is not clear, is whether PS5 games stored on the external hard drive can receive automatic updates.

The blog post made it sound like they would only be automatically updated once copied back on internal memory. That would be pretty annoying if true, especially for games that receive a lot of big updates.

    Re: NVME M.2 expansion.
    To be fair.
    1) They always said it would be a little after launch
    2) The NVME Gen 4 drives have pretty much all been delayed by COVID//Semi-conductor shortage/other reasons. PC gamers expected several models out last year that never materialised. This obvs. affects the PS5 too.
    3) There are so few PS5 games, it's only a problem for a small minority right now (or COD players ;-) ) you can install everything else on an external SSD/HDD.

Considering faster loading times has been one of the biggest plus points of the new generation, lots of folk want to play their older games from an SSD. It's not just about the newer generation of PS5 games.

The fast travel in Miles Morales is incredible. I havenít timed it, but it canít be much more than a second to fast travel from the top to the bottom of the map.

I don't think it's NVME shortages but more with how they can cool the drives.

    @Malek86
Yeah, that kind of defeats the purpose of storing PS5 games on the external for me. If I have to copy them back to internal and then wait for a huge update, I might as well have just downloaded the entire thing again in the first place.

Think I'll just have to be a bit more selective about what I install. I've already removed destruction allstars (shite) and Tsushima earlier today (great, but I've got the plat already)
Also removed Bloodborne and TLOU2, and will just download the full things if they ever get a PS5 patch.

I only had to clear space for the first time last week and there was a fair amount of games I knew I was done with for now so it's not been a problem for me yet. That being said I'm not playing these 150GB sport or FPS games

@Dougs I didn't do any of that, didn't even go into settings. Updated the controller right after the PS5 updated, turned the pad of connected my 2nd pad via the same USB cable and it flagged up the same update message.

Yeah, but if you accidentally skip it, you have to fanny about a bit.

Can't remember I ever saw a DualSense update, hmmm.

On a sidenote, I think years of having to deal with a huge Steam library and tiny SSDs have steeled me in coping with the PS5. Storage space seems plentiful to me.

Canít find the Days Gone thread for the life of me!

Anyway, reinstalled it and booted it back up to see what itís like on PS5 and yeah, it looks and runs beautifully now.

Iím also shocked how good (and vast) the challenge mode is - thereís so many different game modes and things to do itís almost like an entirely new game.

If you havenít tried this yet, especially if youíve got a PS5, thereís really no excuse now that itís on PS+.....get it downloaded, thank me later.

@Ultrasoundwave Iím waiting to see if HZD gets the rumoured 60fps patch on April 19th, and if it doesnít, Iíll be giving Days Gone a blast.

I've found Days Gone a bit clunky, the ssd doesn't appear to be great at loading the many, many fade to black, wait for a cutscene to load, watch for 30 seconds, fade to black and more waiting for it to load. Christ knows how bad that must have been on base ps4.

I am kind of enjoying it and too far in to the meat of the game to stop but I have been tempted to bin it.

I also have zero trouble (but then I usually have at most 2-4 games "active").

And the controller firmware update just popped up for me after installing (but then my controller is always plugged in and set to communicate via USB).

Yeah the controller update popped for me, but I somehow managed to skip it and now canít figure out how to install the controller update manually.

Unsurprisingly, you canít just go Settings>controller>update controller....because thatís too fucking obvious isnít it Sony!

For me the other option was 'ask me again in 24 hours' so I'm sure it'll come up when you use it next.

Or follow the above guide, if you don't want to wait. S'what I did when I skipped the update when I got a new controller

Turned on my ps5 got a system update. Installed system update, the ps5 restarted but won't turn to white light just keeps flashing blue. I've tried everything from holding down power to boot up in safe mode to turning off from mains socket and still blue light flashing only. It's buggered and ps support is closed.

Happened to me after the update. Persevere with holding the power button down until you get a beep out of it. Was way longer than the usual 10 secs for me.

My patch installed ok and the controllers as well guys. It's feeling like the ps3 all over again, no games and lots of firmware updates. :)

Apparently the disc drive is less noisy when spinning up for its utterly pointless hourly checks now... I guess that's some kind of progress.

How is it for you so far? I do love me a good PS5 noise level discussion...

Got the beep but still nothing, just flashing blue light.

That sucks. Only suggestions are to try and brute force it with holding the power button for as long as it takes in the hope it goes off or risk turning it off at the mains. Mine needed a database rebuild anyway so there probably won't be a difference between either.

Mine did the rebuild thing but I assumed it was for USB connected SSD I've got for some PS4 games.
