Probably is due to buying groups of drinks. I seldom only buy a drink for myself. And I was trying to remember getting change for a tenner and failing miserably. (Also failed multiple times to pay by contactless due to a round costing over £30).

And last time I did buy a drink for only myself was in King’s Cross Station which someone else mentioned was a rip off.

Desperados is French isn't it? It was massive when I worked in a French bar many years ago anyway. They'll put any shit in their beer to stop it tasting like beer.

At least we know the 'break glass in case of emergency' move is to talk about beer when things are taking a turn for the worse in here.

I've taken a bit of a liking to Asahi lately.

    @PazJohnMitch S'what I thought might have happened!

I am still on Moretti and Menabrea. Can't get enough of crisp, dry Italian lagers. Also had a "Poretti" which came in a lovely box in Tesco and was a bit hoppier. Very nice too.

@monkman76 it's a cheap french beer with tequila flavouring.
It's doesn't even have tequila in it.

Reading this thread, I randomly looked up something I used to drink back in the day. I'm a bit gutted my fine drink of choice from the 90s is discontinued now. Ahhh, many a good night had on Tennent's Velvet.

    /sob

I used to drink Caffreys as well. Is that still a thing? I have a feeling it is.

If I took a screenshot of the new R&C and printed it off to A2 size, frame it and take it down to a local car boot sale/market, I reckon I could charge £70 for it and someone would probably buy it. That's got to come into price/worth of the product?

I've got literally millions of screenshots to look at just for £70. Bargain!

Sorry, this is now a booze thread. Desperados is all kinds of wrong.

@wuntyate used to drink Velvet as well but made me a bit sick after a 3rd pint.

    Caffreys just felt...wrong.

A pint of weird, slightly fizzy, crap ale, that always seemed to be just slightly too warm.

Dougs has it right. And a pint of Moretti is under a fiver a pint too.

I don't remember it being slightly fizzy but it has been a long long time.

I'm going to have to grab a few cans if I see it. I'm sure they still do it.

It's not really fizzy, it's one of those very processed creamy bitters that were popular for a while.

I always found Caffreys tasted like soap back as a student when I frequented the pubs instead of going to lessons.

Whilst were on with prices, I wish they were like the Union bar back then. £1 a pint of Heineken or if you were feeling flush £1.50 for Stella. This was 1995 ish though...

My favourite beers are: Kwak, Leffe, franziskaner, affligem and Erdinger.

Although I also regularly drink a few of the Badger beers like Fursty Ferret and Golden Champion which are regularly on sale at the supermarket.

Caffreys and Boddingtons and the ilk were all drawn from the same steaming cesspool of tea-flavoured bollocks bitters.

Yeah, but Mel Sykes advertised Boddies so it's ok.

Prefer the import though, it's definitely not as strong in flavour brewed under licence here.

I always assumed Caffreys was similar to John Smiths, a nice smooth morning beer to pick you back up at a festival.

I really want to know how it tastes now with my refined modern standards and sophisticated palate. I might even pour it into a glass instead of chugging it from the can.

Ooh Caffrey’s! Now there’s a blast from the past. I used to quite like that… in the 1990s…

Tempted to see if I can find some now.

I’m also quite partial to Innis & Gunn (Original) which is wonderfully refreshing on a hot day.

@Killerbee Get the red Innes & Gunn. It's superb. If you're not careful after a few cans you'll be chewing on a doornob mind you as it's a fair bit stronger than the green stuff.

Only had the red and only in bottles. Didn’t know there was a green.

@PazJohnMitch don't think they do the green in bottles, only had it draft and cans. They do the red in cans too and there's a black label bottle which is nice as well.

Drinking a Menabrea now funnily enough, seems to be my new favourite!

Birra Moretti Alla Siciliana is nice for a change if you can find it anywhere.

Back in the midsts of time, me and my mates used to pop into a pub in Cardiff (the drinks were always cold) and start the night with 3 pints in 30 minutes. Always got messy.

I just read that it is only 3.8 percent. Sure it used to be stronger.

Ap pint of Hurlimann's used to be a good (or bad depending on your tolerance) start to the night. "Hooligan's" lead to quite a few acts of bravery/stupidity.

As did Newcastle Brown. Why did I ever drink that stuff? Yuk.

Estrella is a lovely pint. I’d forgotten about Caffreys, used to like that. There’s a pub here that does Trelawney on draught and that’s a great pint too.
