Oh that sounds pretty bad. I imagine that's quite costly.
It's not quite as bad as it sounds. Chip yield is usually around 75-80%, and improves over time. So it's still bad, but no THAT bad.

    That's almost 2 PS3s!
I went halves on one with my brother and even then it felt expensive. I spent a long time playing NFS, Road Rash and Samurai Shodown but I always felt a little ripped off in my heart.
All top games to be fair, but as far as I recall, that was basically it

Nah would add return fire, the horde and space hulk to that list as game I also played the hell out of on 3DO. There was one or two others such as this is where I played wing commander 3.

I remember visiting Universal Studios Hollywood as a kid, and they had a 3DO kiosk there. I kind of wanted one, but it was too expensive and I knew I'd never own one. The games I really wanted for it were Samurai Shodown, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Gex and The Daedalus Encounter (I had a thing for Tia Carrere back in the day 👀 ).

Not long after, the PS1 released at about half the price, so it's good I waited.

Yeah, I had Return Fire and Space Hulk, Fifa and a few others but it wasn't a long list of must-haves.

Why would a Spanish retailer have price in dollars? If it is in Euros which is more likely that would put the price at $600 and $480

And to back this up https://www.elcorteingles.es/videojuegos/nintendo-switch/ the prices of Switch match the leak and are indeed in Euros

Which seems a bit on the high side, so probably just holding prices if anything

Why would those prices, which have been rumoured pretty much since the initial PS5 reveal, make Xbox nervous? Does anybody seriously think the Digital Edition will be similarly priced to the Series X?

Man, I hate clickbaity headlines like that.

Prices in Euros translate directly to prices in dollars 99% of the time, there's no way it'll go from 500Ä to $600.

Tom's is a US publication, of course they'll give prices in dollars, otherwise 60% of their readership will have no idea what they're talking about.

21% VAT in Spain, when you take that into consideration the prices work out

I'm sure a 399 price for a full spec PS5 would make MS nervous for the simple reason they were probably planning to massively undercut Sony.

Considering the relative successes they've each had this generation, it doesn't take a genius to work out that MS really would have wanted to be competitive on price. And they are, I guess, but they would have liked a much bigger advantage.

If this holds water it would put them at a pretty level value proposition... so how many people within Sony's ecosystem now are really going to consider switching? What reason would they have? MS's whole strategy is based on value for money of the hardware - they're not really competitive in any other meaningful way as it stands. Other than slightly more TFs for the nerds.

I think a $499/399 offering vs. a $499/299 offering (considering what the Series S actually is) would make for a pretty compelling competition.

I'm hoping GAME will do a trade-in deal for PS4 / PS4 Pro personally. Worked nicely when I went from OG PS4 > Pro.

Cex giving £104 currently on the base PS4, I imagine that will be more like 70-80 around ps5 launch.

I'm hopeful that maybe the Ps4 Pro plus a £60 cex voucher will nearly get me the Series S as a side upgrade on my Xbox one.

    PS5 will be preordered anyway.

I'd forgotten about that, will have to check out John Lewis myself. I can't imagine there being a big price variance on such things, outside of game bundle deals.

I haven't made use of their guarantees before, since we had that EU 2 year thing. Thank goodness we didn't potentially brexit away increased consumer protection for no good reason :p

Sorry if this is a daft question or an unknown, but will I be able to log in to the PS5 at the same time as the PS4? Will I have to make the PS5 my "primary" machine? e.g. how is this handled between PS3/4? Would like to leave my PS4 downstairs for the boy, and use the PS5 upstairs for myself and carry over my digitals.

I'm sure I was signed into my PS3/PS4 at the same time a lot during the start of this gen, so it should work fine. Same with the Vita and PS4. The primary account thing is device specific.

Presumably should work the same way. PS4 set as your primary console but logged in with the kid's account and PS5 logged in as you but not set as primary.

I would imagine with almost full PS4 BC they won't allow two devices to use the same account, but time will tell.

On Microsoft's side, you can be logged on the 360 and X1 at the same time, but you can't sign into any BC 360 game (if you do, you get signed out of the 360).

I imagine the new consoles will be similar. However, since BC will be system wide instead of emulation, they might not even allow you to sign into PS5 and PS4 at the same time regardless of what you are doing.

@Psiloc I see what you're saying, but once Sony announced the Digital Edition there was little MS could do I guess. PS5 is bound to sell more and I think $399 was always a probable price-point, so MS will have been prepared for that I think.

I just don't expect anything announced tonight to make MS more nervous than they'd have been six months ago. They know they're second-fiddle, it's why they've refocussed onto services and release their games on PC.
