Iíve been an early adopter each generation and, each generation, have wished Iíd waited for a year.
Decide I was definitely going to wait next gen but with backward compatibility thereís less reason to.
My wallet says fuck you Roger Sony.

Huh? The XB1 is region free. Moreso than the PS4 in fact.

Yeah backwards compatibility makes the purchase a lot easier. I'm not really enamoured with next gen to be honest but i'll probably end up getting one day one because i can't control myself when it comes to new and shiny.

I'm sold. I cant believe I held off but never got the Ps4
So the backwards comparability is a big plus for me. I'd have a big back catalogue to catch up on.

    You misread my post.

When the XB1 was first announced, at that disastrous E3, it was stated up-front that it would be region-locked (as well as online-only). The next day, Sony got up and comprehensively Red Wedding them, which led to the online-only stuff and region-lock being ditched soon after.

I absolutely loathe region locking and will never buy another region-locked console. But some developers and publishers, particularly Japanese ones, still hanker for it and whenever a console generation shift comes around, I'm not comfortable until I've seen that there's no region locking.

If they hamper TLoU2 with that cross-gen cockteasing bullshit I'll be off the Naughty Dog HQ to throw my own faeces at their windows like a monkey.

So i guess this is confirmation that Xbox are gonna be bringing the new console to E3 then.

Also, will buy the Playstation 5 day one, but please, please, please Sony, give me better games than killzone shadowfall and knack!

I thought Killzone: Shadow Fall was a decent launch game.

Had a lot of fun in multiplayer, couldn't tell you a fucking thing about the campaign. Graphically I remember it being pretty impressive and it utilised all the gimmicks on the DS4 while they were still a novelty.

It wasn't exactly Uncharted but it was a perfectly acceptable launch title to showcase what the console could do.

Oh, god. Save us from mandatory controller gimmicks of the first generation games.

"Hold the controller like a spray can and throw it at the designers fucking head"

I might pick one of these up. Didn't get this gen's Xbox or Playstation, but wouldn't mind playing some of the better games on BC.

Heh, I love how the touchpad basically became a giant Start button after about 5-6 months of trying to shoehorn any sort of function out of it into a game with absolutely no success.

Back compat is the dealmaker. Too many From titles on my shelf that I have to revisit every 12-18 months

I'd love it if they could dump the touchpad and "share" button for the PS5 controller. We pretty much know the best configuration for twin-stick controllers by this point (and it is basically the XB1 controller) - start and select buttons (or equivalents) to the side, with some kind of system-menu button in the middle.

If we do have to keep the "share" button, perhaps it could be combined with some sort of built-in euthanasia device (perhaps a shotgun shell loaded and primed in the controller, or something that hooks the thing directly up to the mains supply) to help manage the streamer population down a bit.

Meh, it's MS's turn to have the better box next time.

MS would have to do something pretty amazing to get me back to Xbox now. Making some decent games would be a good place to start though.

I only have a base PS4 and xbox one and wasn't initially intrested in the pro or x until much later. Saved money by resisting and will no doubt get a PS5. Not in any rush though to be fair.

Well I don't know about you, but I'm fully looking forward to Halo 6. Word on the street is that you only have to read 8 novels, a 32-part comic series and watch 4 seasons of webisodes to understand what the fuck is going on in the beaten horse of a timeline.

If the pendulum does swing back to MS (by no means guaranteed), it's more likely to be a Sony cock-up that achieves this. They did manage to blow a huge market-share advantage at the end of the PS2 era, with the bloody awful lead-up to the launch of the PS3. What we've seen on the PS5 today looks decent, but a misplaced price-tag here, a Giant Enemy Crab there and they could still blow things.

How much of that do you need to read to actually... like... care?

I remember picking up one of the Halo novels once for a plane journey, having been assured that it was "really, really good as franchise fiction goes". It wasn't. It was unmitigated shit.

So only backwards compatible by one generation, and that's a celebration? What about all those PSX, PS2, and PS3 games bought on your previous consoles? I don't own an XBOX, but they still look far more appealing in regards to preserving older games.
