Guess we know why that digital edition is cheaper now.

Hang on a minute, I thought Sony were all about 'generations', guess that was bullshit then and they're following the same path Microsoft were lambasted for.
It was bullshit to lambast Microsoft with. Also hilarious that people were using the likes of Miles Morales and Horizon 2 as arguments why "next gen only" was the right move. It's been implied Demon Souls remake will hit PS4 too.

Don't really care, I'm happy enough for the next year just playing current gen games with extra bells, whistles and flutes.
Itís pretty widely agreed that R&C is the one that wonít go backwards due to the SDD speeds. Remains to be seen, obviously, but the point is that they arenít making everyone work on the PS4. Weíll have exclusives.

With over 100 million consoles out there, supporting that base as much as possible is smart. With free upgrades to the PS5 too, to keep people invested in the ecosystem. It;s not something I particularly care for but itís understandable.

Never ever paying more than 50 quid for a game. Money saved on a PS5 I guess, for now, anyway.

@JamboWayOh Well that's made things a bit easier. Only reason for me to get a PS5 on launch now is just to have a console that isn't louder than my vacuum.

Will be interesting how they price the PS4 versions, as they come with free upgrades. As long as youíre happy to wait the exclusivity period youíll save.

Fuck me, if you get the cheaper all digital console you're locked into paying £70 if you want to play the standard versions of these PS4 ports at launch.

    Painful.

Much prefer MS strategy here, built around Gamepass. I'll get all first party games at launch. I'll also get first party last gen games with next gen enhancements at no extra cost. And my digital library of about 300 OG/360/XB1 games will all just plug and play at launch. All with Series X enhancements baked in.

I'll be getting both machines inevitably but the value proposition in the All Digital PS5 is terrible for enthusiast gamers who want to play games around their launch. Seeing these prices has made me instantly "no deal" the all digital machine - which originally I thought the better option.

Some extremely heavy subsidising of the hardware here I think.

I guess they have to make a profit somehow. I can't see many spending Ä80 on games. £60 for Sackboy? WTF.

@Derblington will probably be the same.

Which would imply that Demon's Souls is not coming to PS4 after all, otherwise people might just wait and grab that version with a free upgrade instead.

They have taken the trialer down, so maybe they are fixing that line?

Isn't the spiderman game basically just a trumped up expansion of the last one?

Yeah but my mum bought those for me (thanks mum). I buy my own games now, so...70 can fuck right off.

In fairness, I seem to remember paying £55-60ish for Killzone and Assassin's Creed IV when I popped out on PS4 launch day to pick up a few extra games for it. They seemed to very quickly settle into the £40-45 ballpark though.

@richardiox launch period is always uber expensive. It's only thanks to Game Pass that it doesn't seem so, and keep in mind that we probably shouldn't expect any big Series X titles on Game Pass for a while.

I get your point though. I'm going to grab the Series S myself, with my subscription it's gonna be the cheapest new generation period yet. Still not sure I'll renew until I can find another good deal though.

Are they pricing the games like that to discourage people from buying their obviously loss making digital edition? I bet there will be very few digital editions available during the launch period. It looks good on paper for them.

Itís anyoneís guess atm. But theyíve said that a handful of the other PS5 titles will be, so if you can wait the exclusivity period out then itís a valid option.
A lot of people wonít wait so they donít have much to lose on it.

I expect the prices to all settle down after a period anyway. Itís not a good first impression though, for sure.

It wonít deter me personally, I just really donít want discs anymore. Iím also only really interested in 2, maybe 3, of the Sony titles, so Iíll just suck it up for them.

Right... so... since the PS2, my Playstation has been my US DVD/BD player. So time to see if I can get a US import of a PS5.

Previously, I've just bought the hardware on a trip to the States. That's... kinda not happening right now.

Demon's Souls is coming to PC too. That is amusing. Sony's marketing around exclusives and cross-gen is looking increasingly nonsensical.
