Cooling on this again now. Moving around the open world really is a chore. Also, combat vs armoured enemies is just a bit less satisfying.

Exactly my thoughts. I've gone from loving it to bloody letting it irritate me now so I think I've abandoned it. I'm much preferring spending my time on wildlands and doom.

Tbh you've abandoned more games than I've had hot dinners.

The armour plated shroud dudes do take some serious shotgun damage tbh.

Just finished this after about 7 hours of gameplay including doing a fair bit of side stuff and unlocking nearly all of the skills. The last 4 hours wasn't much fun at all, the combat never really got more fun than it was when I unlocked the slam move. The machine gun you get at the start is the best gun in the whole game and once I had armour piercing on it I never used another gun.

Really disappointed that it never lived up to my own hopes. The trailers were colourful and fun but the game itself is never that colourful and doesn't even make use of hdr so looks a bit washed out compared to other games. The combat never gets as good as Doom or Bulletstorm, the driving is never as good as Mad Max. Feels like they had to rush it for some reason.

Getting very bored of this now. Think I'm around half way through the main story. Gunplay is fine and all that, but the lack of enemy variety is painful. Makes me yearn for Doom.

Hate the way I can clear up an enemy outpost, then have to spend twice as long as it took to clear it hunting around for crates to actually get anything approaching a reward.

Yes, but the perks do make this somewhat easier, if not entirely. Next up for me will be armour piercing rounds I think I the hope that will make things a bit better balanced.

Finished after a considerable amount of time; overall enjoyed it a lot but the final mission is really quite poor. Afterwards I went back into the wasteland and cleared out a couple of bandit dens and had a better time.

Sounds like a disaster tbh. Taken a game which was flawed but had most of the hallmarks required for a decent franchise and basically shipped out something even worse that came before. Sigh.

Minor miracle that the reboot of Doom was so good.

I wouldn't call it a disaster - for me it's better than Rage. The combat is brilliant, the rest of the game is just a little half baked is all.

Yeah it's definitely not a disaster, Anthem was a disaster.

Yeah it's not a disaster by any means but for me it's a big step down from rage. Well the gunplay isn't but the world it's wrapped up in is.

Anyway fuck it. I'd definitely still recommend it at a sub £20 price.

Oh, it's not a disaster. It just gets very samey very quickly. You get the distinct impression playing it that some bad decisions were taken late in development to pad the playtime a bit. The "hunt the crates" mechanic is deeply aggravating and seems to serve no purpose beyond padding out playtime.

It reminds me of the days of early ps3 and 360 where there was a collection of A and B games compared to these days of indie and AAA games. It made for a much more varied choice of experience but also a glut of mediocre games.

I found that getting the Icarus speeds stuff up immeasurably.

The icarus is a strange inclusion as it instantly renders the open world moot. It makes you think that they were very aware that open world was not something they had confidence in.

It is fairly slow though, in wide open areas you'll get there quicker in some of the cars.

Yeah..but jumping off it high up and doing a Slam as an entrance never gets old.

    It's £20 on CD Keys - worth a punt?

Finished... fantastic fun... bobbins story. Really finds its stride when you upskill and upgrade everything... plays like a dream then but if you bust through main missions you won't see any of this.

For £20, yes. With hindsight, I regret paying more than that. But there is £20 of enjoyment in there, for sure.

Yeah, having reached the end, £20 is about its worth. The id combat is amazing, particularly once you've unlocked everything and levelled up, but Avalanche haven't made a game that comes close to being within five leagues of it.

Think I've found all of the Arks now - I have all weapons and skills unlocked. Just going to push on to the end of the game and be done with it.

Yeah Iíve got them all now too, I have all but one of the second tier missions to go and whatever comes next which is presumably one last project dagger mission.

The annoying thing is I could write a better final mission to the game than the one they gave us.

I would have beefed up the role of Eden Space Centre, turned the new eco-pod into a huge environment for a final battle against overwhelming odds, and made 'Project Dagger ' an infinite overdrive ability. Just have an absolutely nuts final battle with no cooldowns, no reloads and every ability ramped up to eleven.

We talking Doom level of awesome combat with this? Or just standard Rage level?

If the former then I could be tempted. Not like the story in Doom was Palme d'Or worthy...
