Oh and sonic looks heaps better but they’ve just done with him what they should have in the first place.

@ChiefGB You're probably right about Carrey to be fair.

It's kind of like when REM returned to their old sound before finally retiring. I still bought it though and I'll watch Carrey in this. You never know, sometimes acts manage to recapture past magic. See the Pixies latest and the last two Bowie lps

Will probably go with the little 'un now that it's not likely to give him nightmares for the rest of his days.

I'm taking the boy to see it on saturday. I don't imagine I'll stay awake during it but I think he'll enjoy it.

It’s a weird one. Anyone in the target demographic surely doesn’t give a crap about sonic the hedgehog or even know what it is?

It just looks like that Pokémon film with a palette swap.

I'm going on Wednesday. I'm hoping Jim Carrey is enough to get me through it.

I’d be genuinely surprised if it was anywhere near as good as Pokemon. That’s was actually pretty good.

I'm hoping he ends with a wandering melancholy soliloquy about how fame is an empty construct and Jim Carrey doesn't exist and we're all just one consciousness, the universe just trying to understand itself man.

Going to see this next week with my 7yr old. Public opinion so far seems very good.

@challenge_hanukkah I don’t mean critics. Never trust them. But the general public consensus I do.

I'm pleased that the general public/fans liked it. I definitley don't follow what critics say if a trailer impresses me then I would most likely go and see it. Planning to see this at the weekend with my relatives whom my younger siblings are big fans of sonic.

Was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this, thank god they changed that horrendous model though.

Interestingly it seems they just said fuck it and used the promo materials they had already made up before the backlash. Got the kid a collector's cup and the toy on top is the Sonic with eyes like Uma Thurman and legs like Mo Farah.

Same here, kids loved it and secretly I did too. Carrey is over the top, but it had plenty of genuinely funny moments, loads of action and whipped along at a fast pace.

Credits were amazing though, whomever made those really got the source material.

He did take his shoes off though, yiffing foot fetish porn incoming

Watched it today. It was good, but Sonic was too much like a generic kids movie chatterbox protagonist. I guess his "cool guy" attitude from the games would have felt way too anachronistic today.

One problem is that they made him insanely fast in this movie, compared to the games. I mean, pretty much speed of light fast. It's useful for gags, but every time he clashes with Eggman you think "why can't he just go faster like before?".

Jim Carrey as Eggman was great though, a mix between Ace Ventura and the Riddler, but (slightly) more reigned in.

Overall, I was never bored throughout, and that's a good thing.

It's a problem with the power of speed in general I think. I was quite into the first few series of the flash but it slowly drove me crazy where every episode he would face off against someone and really struggle. all I could think was "you could punch there head off, run home, crack one off and be asleep before there body hit the floor. What is happening?"

The power of Sonic's hair allowed him to match his 'normal' speed, but he was outmatched when Sonic used his limit break basically.

That explanation was perfectly fine for a kid's film. I'd imagine they will use the Choas Emeralds as the macguffin for the next film to bring them back on par.

Honestly enjoyed it far more than I thought. Jim Carrey basically playing it as 1990's Jim Carrey was an excellent shout too. I now fully expect it to follow the 'we need to milk this' template of a passable but meaningless 2nd installment followed by an utterly terrible 3rd now it's proven to be a box-office hit.
