Hmmm, thanks that's intriguing. I'll wait for feedback. I don't find my Quest uncomfortable, particularly, but I must admit when I went back to trying a friend's PSVR and Rift:S I was surprised how comfortable they were.

I played 4 hours straight in Boneworks the other day and it was fine, but you could definitely see it on my face!

The newly released star trek game is on sale on the Ubisoft website for around £6.50, and the dlc is £3.50 on the US website. Buy them both and you get keys for the oculus version which is cross buy, basically you can get the game for a tenner. Which indeed I have done

Titans of space is out - I can recommend that for a nice experience, especially as an intro to show people what VR is capable of doing

Picked one of these up a few days ago and Iím really impressed with it. Only got Beat Saber and Thrill Of The Fight so far and both appear excellent. What are your essential games? Superhot and Pistol Whip are two under consideration.

Accounting+ if you like Rick and Morty, Ultrawings if you like flying, and it can be played sitting down.

@Dazimus job simulator is a lot of fun especially for people who are new to VR, or for kids.

So the Quest is the standalone version, right?

I was tempted to get a Rift S in the sales. They had reduced it to £350, but by the time I made up my mind it was back to £400. I have a PC that can cope with running it fine. Standalone sounds better, obviously, but I heard that compatibility with VR-enabled games via your PC was in beta? Am I better to hold off and get a Quest?

The Quest runs PC games just fine if you get a compatible cable, and has the advantage of being standalone, but the downside is the comfort level. It's quite heavy and almost everyone that tried mine complained about it. Haven't tried the Rift S but I can only imagine it's much more comfortable.

Thereís a lot of comfort hacks for the Quest that makes it a lot better. Easiest and cheapest is to loop a workout headband across the top, but you can also buy actual comfort bands or counter weights for it too.

Quest Link works fine for me on everything Iíve tried so far using a ten dollar compatible cable I found on Amazon.

Yeah but it makes it hard to recommend.

I find that running the Quest in Link mode takes a bit more PC resources than a standard PCVR headset. I also feel a very small, almost imperceptible lag with the hand controllers.

It's pretty cool, but yeah it's uncomfortable and it's also a bit blurry because the encoded resolution doesn't match the screen native resolution.
  • Deleted user 13 January 2020 13:16:43
It really is so uncomfortable, I just tried to play Elite for a while but had to quit out because of the discomfort. The compression was pretty apparent in Elite, a lot of the dark areas (space!) kind of swim around a bit. Otherwise it looked pretty good but not exactly sharp.

I'm seriously considering getting a Rift s despite hating Oculus.

Really can't fault the customer service, I messaged them and told them I'd cracked my right controller (my nephew smashed it off a wall getting a bit overly excited in drunken bar fight) and they sent me a replacement. I had to send the old one back and within three days I had a brand new one. Let's see how unfair with Nintendo and my joycon, which they want you to send off for them to inspect and give you a price on without ever speaking to anyone or giving any real details. They asked for the switch serial but not the joycons which were bought some time afterwards. Still, I'm waffling.

    Anyone tried this:

Seems a bit of a faff but I'm a HL nut so might be worth a go.
