Really tempted sill though, I love what Codemasters are doing with handling at the moment and the engine sounds are sexual.

I feel you may be setting yourself up for disappointment with the handling in this. I know you mentioned it's by the same team that did Dirt Rally, but every impression I've seen says its straight up arcade.

There's a few sim racers on youtube I watch occasionally and they've been fairly complimentary of the handling. I've seen the word "simcade" thrown about a bit.

I don't really mind if the career is a bit short, I usually only get halfway through driving games anyway. And fewer tracks just means I learn the racing lines and braking points more easily (racing line assist off of course). Very tempted.

It's definitely arcade but you can turn off all of the assists and it does turn it into something that is less forgiving - challenging, even. And the different car types really do handle differently - great fun hooning it around in a Mitsubishi Evo after a few races in the Jedi or GT40.

Honestly, after months of playing all the usual sim titles, having been able to spend the last couple of weeks just having fun in Grid has been a breath of fresh air. Disclaimer: I've only played it with a wheel rather than a controller but I've no reason to suspect that it isn't fun on a controller too.

Hows the feedback on the wheel?

Using a Logitech G29. Feedback is good, communicating everything that you'd expect: grip, weight shift, tyre spin, kerbs, contact etc.

Just found out it runs at 30fps on the pauper consoles, I'll pass.

Wondering how this compares to Forza 7. Wouldn't mind replacing that with a slicker, more focused game if the AI and handling is decent. Am just a bit concerned about the typical Codemasters style pivotal handling that plagues its tarmac racers. If this doesnt have that I might be tempted, even at full price.

They've nailed Dirt and F1's handling on a controller, so a more arcade-like game should be just spiffy.

Gonna leave it a few weeks but I'm fucking sold on this game big time.

Karak with ACG and the Painfully Long Sentences didn't seem to like this much. AI nemesis system is OTT, career not really a career, wheel feedback is poor, engine sounds hit and miss, damage modelling is weird, driving feels 'sedate'. Hm.

Yeah a lot of people complaining about the FFB on the codemaster forums. I'll just wait to see if they patch it.

That's what a review should look like. I realise you can cover a lot more detail in almost 20 minutes of video, but compared to it the front page review didn't even touch some of the critique points Karak covered in great detail. It did go on for a whole paragraph about the title though I guess...

Unfortunately, seeing the game in action and hearing about the issues mentioned in the video I've cooled massively on this. Will stick to Forza for the time being:/

I don't have an issue with the content of his reviews, in fact that's why I endure them. It's the presentation, with the tortuous analogies that no doubt look good on paper but just don't flow verbally.

Ah you're not wrong about his particular style, I don't really mind it though (certainly better than the shouty screechy types).

Point really was that I found the EG review pretty lacking as it didn't cover many (can't even remember it now) issues that Karak did. As so often is the case now.

Have to say though, I was put off the game after the initial 20 secs of footage already, it reminds me too much of previous Codie tarmac racers that I did find very underwhelming, graphically and in terms of structure. Can't quite pinpoint it but maybe the best word to describe it is sterile.

I just don't like him because his opinion has become the only thing that matters to some people for whatever reason.

Really? Didn't realise he's that "famous"... I've seen some of his stuff and generally it resonates with me in terms of the things he covers and that I would consider important when deciding on a game. Actually forgot about him before Monkman mentioned him though.

My copy turned up today and Iíve just had a few races. Really liking it so far. The handling feels right, the cars sound great, but the gameís locked up and crashed once already. Bit of a pain, but not the end of the world.

The FFB feels ok to me, especially once I dialled up the SAT. Its not amazing but does the job.

Too early to make a full judgement yet, but Iím glad I bought it on what Iíve seen. Could do with a patch though.

Review on Top Gear website. They say it's good fun game, handles arcadey on a pad (where it was designed to be played) but of you use a wheel there is "surprising nuance" in the handling model. Main criticism is repetitive limited track selection, many of which featured in previous Grid games. Still looks good.

Feels pretty good on a wheel to me, definitely agree with the nuance comment there. Using a Logitech G920.

Still enjoying this, but it really needs proper time trials. You can do them by doing free play races and setting them to have no AI drivers, but itís not quite the same.

Autosport did TTS fine, as did the F1 games, so itís a bit weird to not have it set up properly here. Also, pictures of the tracks, instead of just names when selecting them would be helpful. Just like in the previous versions.

The driving feels good to me, with a decent level of difficulty and range of cars too. Just needs some tweaking to make it great.
