So now that GoT is over, what else are people watching on their HBO or Sky Atlantic subscriptions? I'm sure I've seen it mentioned other places on here, but Chernobyl is proving to be absolutely gripping so far imo (3 episodes in). There's also an accompanying podcast on Spotify giving some background into each of the episodes including explaining what's strictly factual and what has been dramatized. I've also heard Barry and Sharp Objects have been two of the better shows that have come out recently but haven't watched either. And haven't been up to watching Finding Neverland just yet due to the grim subject matter but would love to hear people's opinions on it. |

Registered 18 years agoReally need to get back into Veep. Loved the first 3 series.
Just started Barry. Very promising. Sharp Objects was excellent. Banshee highly recommended if still up there.
And of course, The Wire and The Sopranos should be every newcomer's first port of call. -

Registered 13 years agoI've finally got round to starting Twin Peaks: The Return. 9 episodes in and it's tedious pretentious guff, so this a non-recommendation. -
Succession and Westworld worth a look and maybe Fortitude. -

The first season of Fortitude was ace when the viewer is left wondering if this is science or magic but I thought the second season was dross. Strangely, my old man is a much harsher TV critic than me but he raves about it. I thought the writers originally had no plan for a second season so decided to write something about getting high on deer piss.

Registered 10 years ago@sherpa1984 I have to agree. I've seen all three seasons and, while the third one somehow managed to wrap up the loose ends, I'd really only recommend watching the first series. -

Registered 10 years agoLet's see, here's some that haven't been covered yet...
Billions - Really solid show. For the first couple of seasons at least.
Kidding - Should be seen as a Michel Gondry piece rather than a Jim Carrey vehicle. Really does a good job of showing, not telling.
Patrick Melrose - Benedict Cumberbatch labour of love. Not many lols, but pretty good.
Britannia - Doesn't have the best start. In fact, the first episode is pretty embarrassing. But it does get a lot better. You just have to embrace the madness.
Camping - Watch the UK version, not the US remake. Worth sticking with to experience one of the most chaotic final episodes of a series ever.
Silicon Valley - Don't think it's available at the moment but genuinely one of the funniest sitcoms to have come out in the last ten years. Although the last season was a bit iffy.
Also worth noting the feature length conclusion to Deadwood is coming out on 1st June. So it's a good time to get up to speed on that. -

Made a start on Barry last night and flew through the first 4 episodes, pretty damn enjoyable. Not overly long, very self aware and some good dark humor. -

Everything about Chernobyl is superb; grim viewing but top drawer series. The fifth and final episode is on Tuesday early hours and watching it on Now TV.
