You’ve just watched the greatest match of all time and I’m not even exaggerating.

So glad it was on free TV.

Like with any sport, there are good matches, bad matches, ok matches. I like it because it is fun to play, i like statistics and i could listen to cricket commentators all day ( a shame bumble was not on commentary duties this wc), it is suprisingly easy to pick up to if you spend a little bit of time watching it, before long you be looking out for batting/bowling averages, weather conditions, type of pitches, what end people are bowling from, boundary lengths, but you also get really drawn into each player, how they play, their strengths and weaknesses. Watching an inform batsmen or bowler is probably as fun as watching a match. It's a great game that can really draw you in if you let it, there is so much to enjoy about it.

ODI cricket is, IMHO , the best format. Yes, even better than 20/20, although those do have closer matches in an acceptable time frame. Test matches are dead to me; stringing out a game of cricket over 5 days just makes it boring.

But 50 over cricket at international level always produces amazing matches, and this tournament has proved that.

Nah, love a Test match. Doesn't happen all the time, but the tension of a final day is amazing.

They should should just do that super over thing to decide a game.

I think i prefer Test matches, as i just like long form games or sport (cycling for example), especially when it goes to the wire, i guess the pay off is worth it.

I think they got a good set up with 20/20, ODI, and test cricket. Something there for everyone, i just don't understand why they want to reduced 20/20 down to a 100 balls. Its pointless. Cricket doesn't really need to change, it just needs to be made available for people to watch.

I was at a BBQ last year and chatting to a guy who works for the ECB (seriously). He pretty much said that Test Cricket's days are numbered.

Tests will always be the pinnacle format for me, but I get that people want to see this kind of tournament as a spectacle. The Ashes are amazing as long as England aren’t shit, it’s a shame test cricket is such a closed club

I actually felt quite unwell during those last few overs. My chest was....yeah. Not happy!

But what a brilliant, brilliant final and ending to the World Cup. It's mostly been a terrific tournament, and so pleased that everyone (who wanted to) got to see it on terrestrial TV too. So important. My five year old loved seeing England lift the trophy, even if he didn't understand what was really going on, and has really got him interested in playing cricket. That might only last for a couple of weeks, or even until the morning, but it's made an impression. If that had been on Sky, etc. which we don't have and millions don't, that moment would have been lost. It only takes one of these kids that have seen the final today to come through and be an international cricketer in the future for England and it would have been worth it.

    Amazing final. Amazing ending.

I'm off to have a chamomile or something. If I don't post tomorrow my chest didn't make it through the night.

The number of times throughout that match where I was convinced we'd lost. Got to feel for NZ, it really was an utterly freak event in that final over.

Best match and closest match (natch) I've ever seen.

Yeah I have zero interest in cricket and only saw it from about the final ten overs but I loved it. Can't believe how stressed out I became even though I never watch it. I even jumped up celebrating the end and gave me a big smile for the next hour.

I'm genuinely gutted for the guys. I hate cliches but even though we didn't win I feel like we played like champions.

Can't ask for more. Feel for Guptil most of all.

But amazing game and glad I was part of the madness in Trafalgar square.

Something I'll remember for a long time.

Yeah, that was my fault - sorry.
I came back several times and every time I decided to actually pay attention England were fucking up. At which point I stormed out in a huff again.
I was out working on the car for the final over and the girlfriend actually shouted "stay the fuck out there" out the door.

I also love how cricket's solution to a draw is "okay lads... We'll do the same thing over again, but this time it'll take half an hour rather than all bloody day."

I live in Australia and fuck me they are salty here, so salty. They can't stand that England won, but I have enjoyed winding them up.

I'd imagine that most of them don't actually care *that* much, and that you "winding them up" is probably not all that effective. The rivalry is mostly just for fun.

And besides, it's only pyjama cricket. :)

Hard luck mate. You would have made it if it weren't for Stoke's BAT OF GOD :-D

Stokes was almost caught out too, and would have been if the fielder had noticed he was so close to the boundary rope. That was probably the defining moment imo.

Amazingly the Indian reaction to this is the saltiest, it's fantastic! Absolutely love it :D There are logical explanations to what happened in the key moments...

Fielder stepped on the boundary whilst the ball was still in his hands, so that's 6 runs. Not hard to understand.

The ball hit Stoke's bat without intent from the batsman and went away for 4, plus the 2 they ran, that's 6 runs. Not hard to understand.

The boundary count to separate teams as a tie-breaker is in the rules of cricket. Not hard to understand. Let's look at other methods they could have used...

    - Head to Head Record in this World Cup -- ENGLAND
    - Better positioned in the League Stage -- ENGLAND
    - NRR in the League Stage -- ENGLAND
    - NRR in the knock outs -- ENGLAND
    - Wickets lost in the regular game -- NEW ZEALAND
    - Wickets lost in the super over -- ENGLAND
    - Boundaries hit in regular game -- ENGLAND
    - Boundaries in Super Over -- ENGLAND

The uproar makes the victory even sweeter, it's truly magnificent to be able to laugh at it all and celebrate.

Yeah the rules are the rules. WI could have knocked us out if it hadn't been for that boundary catch. Maybe India would have won that rained off game.

But agree to be salty about the boundary rule is silly it could have quite easily been NRR or table placing etc.

Though technically the six overthrows should have been 5...
