    But that's cricket.

Loving all the people who don't normally watch getting to see this.

The downside is I realise now just how damaging Skys monopoly can be to the popularity of the game.

Made me laugh this morning seeing Stokes parents being interviewed on all the news channels.

'So... Mr and Mrs Stokes... you must be so proud. Exactly how much dog shit do you expect to be pushed through your letterbox in the next few days?'

Great hearing people talk about it at work - a few people who have kids say they were glued to the screen throughout.

Jubilant we won but absolutely devastated for NZ - they were the better team in the final and we were on the right end of some good old luck. They were incredibly classy in defeat too.

Well the ball did hit Stokes bat from an NZ throw to go for a 4 while Stokes was splayed out on the floor.

It's pretty cruel not to feel any sympathy for them.

I don't think that's unreasonable. Both our sixes in the last normal over were incredibly lucky.

Massive sympathhy for NZ, of course, ridiculous bad luck. But to say they were the "better team" is doing England a disservice which is a typical English thing to do. If there was ever a game where neither team wsa better than the other, this was it.

Devastated doesn't even cover it for me, I've been crying most of the morning to be honest.

I'm genuinely gutted for the guys. I hate cliches but even though we didn't win I feel like we played like champions.

Can't ask for more. Feel for Guptil most of all.

But amazing game and glad I was part of the madness in Trafalgar square.

Something I'll remember for a long time.
Hard luck mate. You would have made it if it weren't for Stoke's BAT OF GOD :-D
Apparently that should only have been 5 runs, as the batsmen hadn't crossed for the second run when the fielder threw the ball....

Come on, that's bonkers. Boult fucked it up, that one wasn't bad luck, that was bad play. Stokes' was huge luck of course. Bairstow chopping on to his stumps, that's bad luck. Buttler out to a wonder catch in the deep you could say was unlucky, if not bad luck.

Chill, I wasn't having a go... let's not forget NZ won the first big chunk of luck of the day with the toss, a chance to put on scoreboard pressure in a WC final is huge.

To elaborate - I thought NZ were the better team by the thinnest of margins, whereas we were the better side throughout the tournament.

It's not meant to denigrate England - the boys were fantastic.

All the 'lucky/unlucky' runs scored contributed to the drama. It was a great performance by both teams.

You feel for NZ because they effectively lost by 0 runs; the outcome being eventually decided by statistics.

However, Williamson accepted this and was gracious in defeat.

I'm ecstatic! Just think we had a bit more luck on the day. No biggie, it hasn't spoilt the feeling in any way.

Chopping it onto the stumps is poor shot selection and good bowling. Amazing catches are skill.

I don't think you could say either were luck.

    Peak viewing figures are in...

    Wimbledon - 9.6m
    Cricket - 7.9m
    F1 - 2.5m

That's pretty brilliant for the cricket, though I imagine the peak was after the tennis finished! Still, hopefully a lot of those viewers saw the amazing end.

I'm always a surprised by the viewing figures and the popularity of tennis. I guess I am biased as I fucking love cricket.

As for cars going round in circles wtf? I get that people probably think the same about cricket but honestly that's one sport I just don't get.

What would have happened if they’d been equal on boundaries? Just discussing in the office and no one knows

Bottom line is that if you don't dominate enough over the opposition then luck can play a part. The less you dominate, the more luck comes into it.

I've seen it work against England in the past in this and other sports. This time it happened to work in our favour.

Take the win, because at some point in the future we're going to get done over in the same way.

I'm not a huge fan of any of them but I'd say tennis is the most entertaining out of them.

I'd argue that Wimbledon is also quite significant in the public consciousness and our national identity, where cricket is seen in many quarters are something quaint from the past.

I'm surprised the viewing figures for F1 are so low - isn't Formula One the second or third most watched sport in the world? I think if Federer wasn't playing the Wimbledon final, then the viewing figures may have been lower.

And you know cricket got a boost because it was free to air. The government need to draw up a list of protected sports that are free to air, to keep the public interest levels up.

I think it just shows sport on terrestrial TV (more so at a national level) will be watched.

Wimbledon is on every year - we all know it and are aware, hence we get behind it.

Cricket is on - We all get behind it.

It won't change, mind, until funding can match what Sky, etc can offer.

@senso-ji I think anything where it's the national team should be on free to air.
