Registered 9 years agoNot confirmed yet, they could have put that in the code knowing people would look.
I cant allow myself to get too excited yet. -

Registered 9 years agoWhat story is there to continue with? The whole Bhaalspawn saga seemed pretty finished by the end of BG2's DLC.
I guess they could start following another main character or something. -

Registered 16 years agoIf it's happening, I can't imagine a better company to do it than Larian. The idea of a Baldur's Gate 3 being written by the fanfiction hacks at Beamdog, or the wall-of-text merchants at Obsidian makes my blood run cold.
But Divinity: Original Sin 2 had just the right serious/silly mix to its design and writing for a Baldur's Gate game. -

Registered 8 years agoPC games in beta are now £50.
It'll be the same story as Wasteland 3. I'll be adamant that I won't buy it then be 3 or 4 drinks in and buy the £80 deluxe edition. -

Registered 9 years agoI wouldn't have bought wasteland 3 at that price. But it was on game pass, so eh.
And normally I wouldn't pay that for any game, but... it's Baldur's Gate. Can't say no to that, even if it's only Early Access. -

Registered 9 years agoAnyway, I'm a bit bummed that Bard isn't one of the initially available classes, as it's the one I normally choose. But I imagine that various updates will make me start new saves, so I guess I'll just roll something else in the meantime. Maybe a Cleric. -

Is it as painfully difficult as divinity? A game I love the writing on but haven’t been able to leave fort joy as everywhere I turn I am getting murdered. -

Registered 9 years agoFrom what I've read the combat sounds less chaotic than DOS2. Whether that makes it easier or not, I don't know. Either way I think I'll appreciate something a bit more grounded.

Let's not forget that DA: Origins was basically BioWare trying to return to their BG roots, so of course it aped that camera setup (to a point) and style. DA was them wanting the same depth of lore without paying the licensing fees for AD&D.

So as long as it's not as shonky as the more recent DA: Inquisition (which I genuinely thought looked like hammered, deep-fried, arse) then this might not be an insult... -

Registered 16 years agoMy worry on this one hasn't been that it would look like Dragon Age, but rather that it would read like Pillars of Eternity. That was pitched by Obsidian as the big BG-successor, but was horrendously over-written and utterly leaden in tone. -

Registered 17 years agoI think with Larian pulling the strings we're probably in safe hands there. They're not quite as pompous as the Obsidian writers were on that one (and I say that as someone who utterly adored Pillars of Eternity). -

It wasn't necessarily meant as an insult, just that it looks more cinematic than the other BG games. Or the Divinities, for that matter.

And the closest cinematic RPG thing I've played to that is... Dragon Age Inquisition. Which I don't think looked like arse, though granted I've played much better-looking RPGs in the years between then and now. -

Registered 17 years agoI was late to DA:I. Played it after The Witcher 3. So... yeah. It was a cross-gen title wasn't it? That probably explains it.

Larian are good for content. So why it may seem a lot now you'll more than likely get your money's worth in time. -

@StarchildHypocrethes Turn-based similar to DOS.

Doesn’t sound great, the party interactions are the part I remember most about BG2 -
I'm not sure where the 150GB thing comes from, my Steam installation was about 60.
Anyway, I'm having fun so far. The UI needs a bit of work, it doesn't feel like there's an easy way to customise your hotbar to have the skills you want (though I probably haven't looked hard enough yet). Movement feels a bit janky too, and the camera doesn't pull back as much as I'd like.
But it's good all the same. Since Bard wasn't available I rolled with a Tiefling Rogue, and I'm out of the tutorial area with a Cleric NPC in tow. I love the little dice rolling thing you get in conversations, it's actually reducing the temptation to save scum when I know that results are random (but with modifiers).
