@Armoured_Bear same here, always appreciated the option to grind on DS and BB.

It's why I have avoided Sekiro.

I did play the first hour or so on PS4 and was getting my arse kicked by General Naomori Kawarada , I'm fucked, aren't I?

Maybe I just need 60fps for my amazing skills to appear.

@PierrePressure Sekiro just struck me as Miyazaki's bad-tempered response to players finding ways to beat his other games that he didn't approve of. From Bloodborne onwards, he's had this "fast melee is the only legitimate playstyle" vibe going on. Bloodborne still provided enough options to be interesting. Once I'd finished Sekiro, I had zero interest in replaying it, because there really is only one way to play.

I'm not the biggest fan of the combat in Sekiro but my main gripe about it was the lack of customisation and replayability. I like to fuck about with builds and wear silly clothes. If I can't wear silly clothes what's the point in geting my arse caved in by an ape? So I for one I'm glad that this is looking more soulsy than anything. As I bloody well need a new souls game in my life. It may turn out to be very non souls of course, but the signs point to open world souls looking at that pishy footage.

@wuntyate Aye, good Soulslikes give you options. I'm not the biggest fan of the Nioh games on the grounds of level design and loot system, but having just finished Nioh 2 solo and now doing a co-op playthrough, I do appreciate the wide range of viable builds it allows.

Though good luck going without Sloth Talismans.

The first two Dark Souls games are probably the best for the overall range of workable playstyles. If Elden Ring is more in that territory, I'm happy.

Pro tip for Sekiro - if in doubt, just keep hammering the block button and you will almost certainly get the parry. It's actually easier than parrying in Bloodborne (and arguably any Souls game).

    @neems

The parry is certainly lightning quick unlike other souls games so spamming block is quite a good idea.

I'm annoyed I got sidetracked by another game before finishing sekiro as I was doing well upto the ape. Very hard to get back into as you need to get into the groove for this kind of game.

Can only speak for myself but once it clicked the combat in Sekiro was so satisfying I never really cared about the lack of customisation. Only Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta come remotely close.

Then again I never played a ranged or magic build in Dark Souls either so that may be why I like it so much!

So have I, as melee, and I gave up on Sekiro. Good luck!

I thought this issue was mitigated pretty well by the red symbols that show up just before 'unblockable' moves hit; everything else could either be blocked or parried in the normal way. Definitely took a little longer to learn the tells though.
That's sort of like admitting there was a problem and they added ui to help make it more visible to compensate.

I completed Sekiro but hardly got anywhere with the latter Souls games and Bloodborne.
I put it down to the lack of character building and weapon track gubbins.
The character was as it was. I had to get good and died repeatedly trying.

Sekrio is up there with Bloodborne. Shame it was made by From in a way, brings too much baggage with it.

I just pretend that they didn't make it. Doesn't spoil my run on completing all their games then ;)

A little bit more rough off-screen footage in the first 30 seconds here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ8kk0I3tkU

I paused the vid at the bit with a magic class character with a giant pointy wizard hat and it shows a large open field leading down to what looks to be some ruins and maybe the sea or a lake beyond that?? At the very least this is looking at lot more expansive, non-linear and open than we've been used to by From. Hmm, Fromsoft game mechanics set in a more traditional fantasy rpg openworld environment... It's an exciting concept.

This is looking great for me. Can't wait for this to come out. Its been too long since my last proper Souls fix.

Was hoping it would be a bit of a departure from Souls but it essentially looks like Souls 4. I'm sure I'll buy it and end up hating it halfway through though.

If they could somehow replace estus with the Nutella - fried egg combo, they will have me sold.
