I'm not particularly happy with most of the recruits I've gotten (Dorothea, Raphael, Marianne, Ignatz and the teachers + the Donny lookalike). Dorothea and Marianne are doing OK, but the other ones have been learning things that I didn't really want them to learn. So it's more of a chore to get them where I want them to be. It'd be nice if I could respec them somehow, so that Raphael isn't spending useless points in lances or whatever. But now I know (more or less) how to recruit people, I'll be able to focus more on pleasing them next time around. The problems will be easier to manage if I can get them early. |

Registered 5 years agoIf dorothea has gone magic, she can be a beast. I had her as a mortal savant in my first playthrough and she was probably my 2nd biggest hitter. I think she’s also tipped as one of the best for the ‘secret’ dancer class...
Marianne on my current playthrough has somehow become my highest level, i think through lucky finishing attacks.
Think i’ve managed to get everyones hidden talent so far too, so will be interesting if they ask to spec in to something more in that direction and how they end up

Registered 2 years ago@Mola_Ram one of the new game + perks is the ability to spend renown on increasing support ranks of those you have previously seen or using renown to increase professor rank (which i did) so you start out with all of your activity points.
It makes recruiting alot easier. -

Registered 17 years agoOn my Golden Eagles route I recruited Dorothea, Caspar, Ingrid, Petra and Felix. Caspar became my most used unit as he was so awesome in battle as a brawler/warrior and Dorothea could do anything at all, from being a thief, a dancer, long range mage, sword fighter etc. -

Registered 8 years agoI've got Dorothea pegged for Gremory. The other two magic users (Annette and Mercedes) will be on horsies eventually.
Felix will be the Mortal Savant, once he finishes being an Assassin. His spell list isn't great compared with other magic users, but he gets extra critical hits with black magic, so I'll pump up his Luck and see how he goes. -

Registered 12 years agoI'm a good few missions past the time skip, I didn't recruit any students, I think I just got Shamir and Manuela. So just got the original black eagles crowd, Plus the extras that get added post skip
I did a paralogue last night where I had to use Catherine, her Mt was great but her hit rate was single figures so she was pretty much useless. I have Petra as the dancer, I haven't really concentrated on any skills so she has a bit of all the weapons and is a beast. Dorothea as bishop (mage?) is probably my biggest hitter, but defence wise she could definitely improve. -

Registered 8 years agoReally this is mostly a "test run" for me. Next time around (hopefully the difficulty DLC will be released in time) I'll have more of an idea what I'm doing, and have a plan for what I want to make people. Rather than just noodling around experimenting, as I'm currently doing. -

Registered 17 years agoI've completed all the 3DS Fire Emblem games, but I still missed a lot of stuff in my Golden Eagles route. Playing NG+ with the Blue Lions is even more fun I know what I'm doing.
Like, the hidden talents thing went completely over my head and I was lazy with reclassing. -

Registered 2 years agoI am a month or so before the half way point on NG+ and finding myself struggling with the enthusiasm for the monastery.
Hopefully there is something different in the second half or the playthrough may drag a little. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah I’ve just got back to where it all went wrong before still lost Gilbert but I’m guessing he’s not needed any longer in battle although if recruitable later may be an obstacle.
Anyway the monastery bits did pull things back a bit.
Nearly halved my first playthrough time though which is nice. I’ve kept everyone on beginner classes for the perks, my only fear is that puts their intermediate progression back as well. Is there time to achieve all mastery? -

Registered 8 years agoI think so, but you'll probably be limited to mastery in one of each "level" of class, at least if you're playing on Hard. -

Registered 8 years agoWell yes I guess every one would be impossible but if at least one of each is attainable it may be worth the effort. Just by the time I get to intermediate I’ll be halfway to the next tier unlock etc. -
Finished for the night just as I was about to start the 2/29 battle, which I'm guessing marks the big transition. Playing as Black Eagles, I've recruited the following from other houses:
Felix, Mercedes, Ashe, Annette, Sylvain, Ingrid, Lysithea, Ignatz, Marianne, Leonie
Not a bad haul for a first playthrough. Gather NG+ makes this rather easier. -

Registered 8 years agoOne slight annoyance about the timeskip is that, 5 years later, your main team has gone up by a few levels. Which is totally fine, except that anyone you recruited stays at the same level they were before timeskip. So now they have even more catching up to do.
Anyway, the team is going fine. Though it's proving particularly difficult to get magic-users the riding stats they need for Master classes. They can theoretically get more riding experience by changing to a Cavalier or whatever, but won't be able to kill anything (because they can't use their magic, and their Strength sucks). At least with a Bow Knight you have options.
So it's just a slow, slow grind with group tasks and instruction. I don't see any other way to go, unfortunately.

Registered 8 years agoI started planning my students' development around their eventual master classes early, but the problem is I've done that at the expense of pushing their main skill, which is going to delay some of their promotions to the advanced classes.
Now trying to get the students with more specialist roles to fully focus on their main skill up to A or B so that they can be promoted without too much delay. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah, I'm sure my issues will be alleviated if I start planning early for things, but it's hard to know right at the start "oh, this person will be good for such-and-such a Master class" without knowing their stat growths and such.
Heh, this was way easier in earlier FE games (because you didn't have a choice). -

Registered 8 years agoIt would all be easier if it would let you click on and explore the classes outside of the certification screen. If you can I’ve not found an intuitive way to do so. -
The menus in this game are not great. There are lots of missed opportunities to consolidate relevant bits of data together on the same menu. For instance, seeing "class xp" for a character is needlessly complicated, when it could easily have been made far more prominent. Similarly, the fact that the inventory screens don't display item descriptions by default is a needless inconvenience. Inventory management in general is just a mess, split between far too many different menus.
I suspect the reasons for this are a 50:50 mix between the need to keep menu sizes legible in handheld mode and a general Nintendo inertia and unwillingness to make obvious quality of life changes from older 3DS titles. -

Registered 8 years agoWell I’ve just remembered the screenshot function so snapped all the master criteria. Shocking that out of 8 classes all but 2 of them are rider classes. Guess it hints where the end game will be going. -

Registered 13 years agoI don't know if I'll bother with some of the Master Classes, I like Petra as an assassin to be honest. I don't think there's any great compulsion to force people into those classes in this one since there's no per-class level cap to worry about. Unless you need the mastery skill or prefer the growth rates it doesn't really matter. I can't be bothered shoehorning some of my characters into the Master requirements -

Registered 8 years agoThe menus are my only real gripe with the game. I love the pacing, the combat, have no complaints about the monastery segments, but the menus are unintuitive both in their navigation and the controls. I'm getting used to them but they could be more user friendly and I agree it's annoying not being able to view the class details on the regular menus. -

Registered 13 years agoThe biggest gripe I have is that sometimes it's difficult to tell how far along mastery wise a character is in their current class. Like on unit deployment if I'm trying to decide who to bring based on who needs more mastery I have to go to the reclass screen to see it. -
@Duffking Yes, that's what I meant by "class xp", sorry. It's a kind of important statistic and yet other than on the post-battle screen, it generally feels like they want to hide it away like their deepest, dirtiest secret. -

Registered 8 years agoYes, it also flashes up when you get defensive xp, countering an enemy move against them I believe. The only way to tell what the buffs actually give is by going online.
Madness, such a rich game but they don’t have the sense to give players all the tools to understand it all. I mean I know it’s designed to be replayed at least two more times I guess, but there’s no harm in helping players make the most of each playthrough. -

So once you press X for details, press it again and you can highlight a load of stats. -
Dunno I thought the one I mentioned was for the class mastery xp
