The ball physics and general control are the best I've ever seen. Bit of a worry that games seem to be descending into stodgy defensive games though.

If they significantly update the ML (unlikely) I would even consider getting it at full price.

They do need to sort the refs though. Far too harsh.

Been watching a few YouTube videos of the demo. Looks very promising.

Konami - please donít build my hopes up only to dash them again

The only gripe i have so far (and i only played two games) is i scored 4 goals in those games and 3 of them were down to nicking the ball off the last defender with aubameyang.

Hopefully that isn't a "thing" its on the default difficulty, AND i was playing against Utd so possibly realistic.

I missed enough other chances that were carefully crafted to make me not worry too much about it.

Love the new camera angle, especially on PC 3440x1440, its like my seat at the Emirates :-)

That was a feature of 2019 tbh. Used to score quite a few like that

I love the new camera angle, but I couldn't use it online as it was difficult to see what was going on at the back of the field. So I went back to Dynamic Wide.

More cool animations... Bonucci Ball Bag Bonanza

Yes my first few online games in the demo were quite defensive games, but I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of this gameplay-wise and am still playing this one like PES 2019. There's a depth here, which will probably take a solid month of playing for the game to yield its secrets, just like the PES games of yore.

Physicality is more prominent in this one, momentum and acceleration seem to be more important in this one (having the run on someone is key it seems), headers work in this one. I haven't even tried the new flashy dribbling yet and even the shooting seems slightly different (I noticed penalty-style aiming circles in the goals when I had advanced shooting switched on for 1 minute - did I imagine that?).

All of this is a long-winded way of saying the stodge may give way to fluidity once the community have absorbed the subtle changes. In terms of the basics, they've utterly nailed it - the feel, the physics, the responsiveness...a great platform to build on.

Whats with the highlights etc going back into 16:9? Or have I missed a setting?

I can deal with menus being 16:9 but in game going in and out is so jarring!

Sorry for posting more animations, but one for Liverpool fans...

    @Bmovie

No setting as far as I can tell. It is a bit crap.

The gameplay is ace tho, especially the layoffs and volleys :-)

I fall for it every year and end up hardly playing it - I didn't even bother to patch the proper kits in etc. last year (PS4).

I think the demo has me again. Really enjoying it.

    My only minor gripes are:
Refs are a tad too strict. Free kicks for the most innocuous contact.
Need to make it just slightly harder to nick the ball off the defenders, as that creates too many goals in my opinion.
Away fans are sometimes virtually silent when the away team scores.
AI might be a bit good at direct free kicks

Those things feel eminently fixable. Overall I really like the pace. There seems to be a fair bit of variance to what works to get goals and what the AI does to score. There also seems to be more unpredictable deflections, which is cool too.

    Fingers are crossed

I've seen the AI thoroughly shit itself when the ball is in the opposition's box. About 3 times I've seen defenders walk the ball into the net for me.

Tried the demo and enjoyed it, but something occurred to me about both PES and FIFA in recent years - do goalkeepers kicking dead balls ALWAYS kick them full-power down the centre? I can't remember the last time I played a footie game where the keeper did a short pass to a defender, or spray down the wings.

I do think itís one of those where the overall gameplay is really good, but play 50+ games and certain repeating niggles will eventually surface.

Hmmm played quite a bit of this now and my impressions are not quite as glowing as most on here. I have only played online but to me it feels more clunky and less fluid than 19, not sure if it's just new game syndrome and it's difficult to judge from just a demo, but struggling to see need to buy when 19 is still so good, might be a rare pes skip for me :(

Right then, hammered this a bit since I got back.

    Good
+ Controls are very responsive and I love how you've got to set yourself before passing, shooting etc otherwise the ball goes everywhere.
+ Ball physics are bloomin' marvellous
+ Really enjoying defending with fulbacks and making their wingers go out wide.
+ Gks are really good without over-powered
+ Physicality is good to a point, see below.
+ Faces for the bigger teams are great but the Colo Colo players look like X360 gen.
+ Emotions on the faces are great especially when you wallop someone.

    Bad
    - The referees are apalling, worse the 2015. It's like the programmers read the rule book on what is a foul but have never watched a game of football in their lives. The amount of fair times I've got the ball whether its a slide tackle or muscled out the opponent then its given a free kick have spoiled what is essentially a decent game.
If you remember Virgil Van Dyke's brilliant tackle in the Champions League final on Lucas Moura, that would have been given as a foul in this game and he probably would have been off!
    - Presentation hasn't changed much since 2017, similar cut scenes, etc
    - Crowd reactions are broken

I have enjoyed it overall but after 20 odd games in ML with the current foul issues I'd more than likely give up on it. Knowing Konami the release build will have the same before maybe addressed with a patch in January.
With F**A20 annoucing some decent changes to dynamic progression of your players in Career Mode and smarter AI changes to the CPU lineups and transfers it's going to take some impressive Master League overhaul for me to buy PES2020 on day one.
Will pick it up when it comes down in price or sale I'd expect.

In game message says the fouls are being looked at and will be addressed in a day 1 patch.

In other news, scored the same way twice in two matches again today. This really needs sorting IMO as its dull

I tried the demo and it's almost unplayable on my current system (i7 4770k, RTX 2070). It somehow feels like it's micro-stuttering, even though the frame graphs tell me it's running at 144hz at all times. By comparison FIFA feels much smoother.

Its silky smooth 60fps for me on a 2060 at 4k. Has to be something awry if you are getting stuttering.

    @azurelas_2

very similar setup, i7 4790k, 2080 and running perfectly for me. set to 60fps in settings and turned off vsync etc?

I do have a gsync monitor tho

144hz is historically not something that pes has supported, needs to be 60.

In the settings program that runs before you play there are only options for 30/60 for gameplay and cut scenes.

The more I play the demo the more I like it. Probably not a day 1 due to usual problems when they bring out the game but come Xmas hopefully those links maybe ironed out.

Been playing this a bit more and I'm being won over. Not sure if they did fix the fouls but they don't seem as bad now although still room for improvement.
I went back to Fifa18 afterwards and that feels on rails and you also realise how good PES is tactically.

There's a list here of all the teams included.
There's a shitload of National teamd meaning that if you make your own option file on the XBox (like I do) then a lot of the players for missing teams will already be in the game.

Do it Dougs! Takes a bit to get your head around how to take the ball off the AI without fouling but well worth it when you do.
I've been switching between Juve and Bayern and you can really tell the difference in how they play. Niklas SŁle is a beast!
