It's been a pretty ignominious start at City too tbf. Scrapping my way to wins.

Still like it but Master League isn't really better than before, just different. Sign the young and train them up, loan them out, spend money on best free agents, then buy all the best players.

At least the camera is improved.

If this guy ends up being any good, it's going to be weird watching England and seeing Castledine in midfield. Playing so much Master League over the years, I always thought it was one of those weird made-up Pro Evo surnames that doesn't exist in real life.

As footyball is shitcanned and I'm working from home, I thought I would download this on PC after having the PS4 version.

I forgot how disappointing this version is. Master League on top difficulty has been my staple Pro Evo diet for about 15 years. It's basically unplayable in 2020 as the 'AI' is so bad.

I've been reading up on it, and apparently there's a stat booting mechanic. What this means is, you'll be flying down the wing with Dan James, Mbappe or someone else with ridiculous pace, and a fat old knacker defender will get stat boosted to match or beat you. Absolute bullshit.

It's nigh on impossible to find any space when attacking, every team parks the bus. Defending is also complete shit. The computer shields the ball while 2 of your players strafe around them like Benny Hill, and you never tackle them. If you do tackle them, of course it's a foul.

Such a shame. Glad I got a cheap steam code because I regret buying it.

Also, when out of possession, controlling your players is terrible. They feel like they are ice skating around. It's like controlling one of the cars in GTA4. You feel like you're running downstairs trying to balance a plate of jelly.

Passing is also shit. The amount of passes that go to the wrong player is unforgivable.

I knocked it down a difficulty level and was beating everyone with ease 2-3 nil every match. Top difficulty, I can score about once in 3 games.

This is currently £4.99 in the Double Discount sale. I'm still pretty happy with the odd game on PES 2018 but am very tempted at that price. It does sound like a lot of people are having issues with PES 20 though? I mostly play Masters League so the AI is really important to my enjoyment of the game. Is it totally broken in this year's game?

Nah I still play it fairly regularly, it's great.

Master league is shit. It's barely updated from 2018 so save your money.

AI is half baked. Refs are terrible. Every ai team plays the same way depending on difficulty, not team.

Blackburn on Superstar are about as good as Liverpool on superstar for instance.

    Not worth the purchase imo

I've put tons of hours into it playing and streaming it, only master league on superstar with the OG idiots. That's my experience of the game.

You feel like you are playing the same match over and over again. There's no variety.

Refs are over zealous, you never gets penalties, CPU can do an inch perfect unrealistic slide tackle 3-4 times a game.

Passing is also crap unless you play manual. Pass assist even on the lowest setting is still broken. Want to play a short through ball to your striker who's made a good run do you? Ever so slightly tapped the button did you? Enjoy watching it get blasted towards your winger and out for a throw.

Maybe on professional it's more fun, but superstar sucks.

The EG review was spot on. In some ways it's incredible, but it's also basically broken in others.

If you've got 18 the gameplay has barely changed much and master league is identical bar some wooden cut scenes that have no impact. My advice is get the latest smokepatch and wait to see if they can be arsed to divert some dev resource from the pay to win mode into ML next year.

    They won't.

    Or try PES lite

I totally forgot they released a PES Lite version. I'll def give that a try first before I decide whether to buy or not. Cheers.

I'm with Decks, I still enjoy it. I do get frustrated with ML being the same forever and I agree that some of the passing in particular is dodgy. I could of course always learn manual controls but I am too old and stuck in my ways

It's still miles better than FIFA. Graphically it looks like a 360 game still. Everyone does stupid tricks and flicks all game like it's a testimonial. Joke of a game.

I play a cup tournament such as Champions League every few weeks or so against the AI and love it, finding teams play differently and as I progress, the opposition improves as well.

I tend to play at either Pro if I want a leisurely time or Top Player for a challenge but still able to win the cup.

I tried the Fifa 20 demo and wasn't impressed (having played loads of Fifa in the last few years besides this season). The mixture of goals you score in PES and unpredictability makes it for me. Saying that, when it gets near 90 minutes and I'm desperate there is a cheap cut back pass goal trick that works most of the time that I can't resist. Mind you, the exact same goal is as easy to score in Fifa as well.

I think we've discussed it before, ML AI is definitely worse than the other modes.

Probably my least played football game of the last 10 years. Not that it's bad or anything, I think i'm just bored of it.

I completely lost interest in football due to the virus stopping it. Playing PES has made me impatient for it's return. Go figure.

Gone back to this playing a League (not ML, too broken) after hammering Fifa and it's miles better with the passing and just not feeling as "on-rails". BUT! The f*cking foul system is so wrong that I almost can't be bothered with it now.
You can win a simple shoulder charge and the ref yellow cards you whilst they will go through the back of you will a sliding tackle and get a warning. Also had their defender scythe down my attacker as last man and again, a f*cking wagging finger from the ref.
Another thing is I can dominate a game then some CPU Midfielder with a Finishing of 55 curls a 30 yarder perfectly past my keeper with their only shot of the game.
Is the Euro DLC out today?
  • Deleted user 4 June 2020 08:43:17
Yeah the fouls have been rubbish for a few years. Slide tackles are generally an instant yellow card. The best method is to try to and put your player's body in the way, I mostly don't tackle as much as just get in the way and it mostly works.

Rumour on twitter that they arent releasing a pes this year and will just do an update. That will give then time for a new engine for 22. Probably bollocks but would be a decent decision I think.
  • Deleted user 4 June 2020 09:17:13
Yeah, I can't see how there can be football games for next year considering what a mess the leagues are in.

Pressing R2 (or is it R1?, I do it instinctively now) whilst running into the guy means he makes a clean tackle. I started dominating once I discovered this - it feels like cheating.

EA's business is pretty much reliant on yearly sports titles so there is no way they would skip. Pretty sure it would have been part of the ps5 conference as well.

I decided £4.99 was just too tempting and, after trying PES Lite, I decided to take the plunge and buy this in the end.

I've got to say, having played PES 2018 for the last 2 years, this feels very different to me and I'm really impressed!

I love the new feel of the passing and the fact a big striker seems to actually have an advantage now, as you can do some flick ons and hold up the ball with a big guy up front. The heading seems massively improved over 2018.

I also really like the extra physicality of it all... although I have been penalised and gained advantage from some very questionable 'free kicks'.

Got to say, I absolutely love, love, love the new camera angle as well. Such a massive improvement :)

Anyway, I know it always takes a good few weeks before you can tell if a Pro Evo has nailed it or not but I'm really impressed so far and it feels like an absolute steal at £4.99!

    Smokepatch I believe. Or EvoWeb.

PES Universe is the best one but it costs a few quid.

Smokepatch is great if you can stomach the stupid dodgy download links and there are like 10 per release.
