If you don't want to splash out for VR, a TrackIR goes a fairly long way to making flight and space sims more enjoyable.

If money wasn't an issue right now, I'd choose the Valve Index for VR in general

That HOTAS looks pretty tasty. The Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog is very nice, but easily damaged if you tinker with it. I only improved the lubrication and have had to break out a soldering iron a couple of times.

Oh yeah I love the look of those things. I think if I get addicted to this the same level as I did with fsx and xp10 then I might be able to justify splashing out a bit.

I've dipped out for a while, but played a fair bit of FSX and DCS when the Warthog was the newest plane. Now it's mostly used for my annual week of playing Elite Dangerous.

Xplane 11 looks pretty decent, but I haven't bit the bullet on that one.

I have to say I'm not a fan of VR, just can't use it for long periods, and find the low-fi infuriating except when I play WipeOut hehehehe.

So I think a trackIR might be a good shout, along with some form or flight controller.

    Good shout Rusty_M

With the index the res is high enough that you can read all the displays, in combination with xplane 11 or Dcs World itís mind blowing, but yeah expensive af because you need a fast pc to run it too. Weíre getting there, slowly.
Canít wait to get home to complete the registration for this alpha, it wants my dxdiag info so canít register on my phone.

What do you reckon theyíre looking for at this stage in terms of hardware? Broad brush?

Think fairly high end because it isnít optimised yet. And since they are streaming in the landscape from the azure servers there were a couple questions about bandwidth and data caps, so fast internet too maybe?

Yeah I did that and was depressed about how much my internet seems to have slowed down over the last 18 months or so

Just submitted my dxdiag. Hoping I get to participate. I have 200MB and no limits on use.

EDIT: Redone my DXDiag, with my Microsoft precision Pro stick plugged in.

I think itís the full Ďworldí feature discovery video, or whatever itís called. The timeline is so wrapped up in management speak that I find it quite difficult to understand though.

The kind of utter bollocks we used to put with as games back in the day astounds me.

I got my first pc in 95, so started with FS98 I think, but I played Jane's US Navy Fighters and EF2000 before that. And Flight Unlimited by Looking Glass.

EF2000 is still one of my favourite games ever, particularly the perpetual campaign mode. Iíd never want to play it again though as the reality would not match how it looks in my head.

I looked into getting EF2000 running again on a modern system not that long ago, can't remember the specifics but it was not trivial and gave up on it.

Did the SubLogic sim evolve into MS FSII? Pretty hazy tbh.

Now I remember, you can get EF2000 running, but the installer is 16-bit, and only runs on a 32-bit windows.

I think it would be too heartbreaking to play it now. Some things are best left in the memory banks.

Indeed, early 3d has not aged well.

Really looking forward to this new one although I can't imagine the entire world will be as detailed as in these videos.

Any of you play DCS world? I see the F-16 is about to be released. I've been wanting to get one of these full sim planes for ever but they are so expensive. The F-14 looks amazing too.

I really fancied the A-10 for DCS or the Huey but donít think I have that much time to do them justice.... X-52 is lying idle at the moment.

last F-16 sim I played was Falcon 3.0 and before that F-16 Combat Pilot on the ST.

Itíll probably be like any flightsim ever, itíll run like shit on current hardware and be the first thing you test when you get new hardware.

I guess the backend is doing the heavy lifting. Fast & stable internet likely to be a big factor...

No I think this one will be different, it looks genuinely cutting edge. From what weíve been told so far it looks like the world will be streamed, which would have a massive impact on performance compared to previous flight sims
