| I must say the quality control around everything in this game except the actual flying planes is pretty dreadful by modern standards. I've been playing on PC for a year nearly, my list of gripes being too long and whingy to list here. The flight experience, once I chucked a stupid amount of money at my PC spec, is remarkably beautiful, so it's worth the hassle. But oh, what a load of hassle. |

Registered 18 years agoMy favourite bit is having a look around the world map in the free flying mode menu. It reminds me of the Wii's weather channel app in a very pleasant way. -

It must be the same on Xbox because I was downloading 2 world update packs and I went back to the home screen thinking they'd continue and they just... stopped. Had to manually restart once I was back in the game

Dunno if it's the same on Xbox, but on PC the store based install and download is a separate launcher, which then downloads and installs the rest of the content.
Does anyone know why if I am currently installing this, (it’s at 30%) at the moment, it shows ‘installed’ when I go to it on the store?
It caused some fun on Steam as just installing it pushed people over the Steam refund window. -

It's a bit different. On PC you needed to download a 2GB or whatever launcher, then open that and sit on a downloading screen with a progress bar and the menu music for half a day just to play the game. When you get past that point you would then be ready to download the world updates.
On console it's nowhere near as shit as that, but world updates are just plain broken and to me would've made more sense as an optional download outside of the game rather than inside it.

Registered 16 years agoAnyone else try to get a group flight/multiplayer going tonight (on xbox) ?
Can't seem to get more than 1 other friend visible at the same time.
Guessing they've throttled this stuff back for the xbox launch similarly to what they did on the PC launch. -

Registered 5 years agoSim Update V is definitely impressive. I'm getting an extra 20fps or so flying low altitude over NY, hovering around 60fps at 3840x1080 with settings on a combo of high/ultra, before it was 40ish with sporadic dips down to the mid 20s. Some nice QOL improvements all around it seems as well. Menus are, for lack of a better word, bouncier, and alerts/badges on things like the market place, content manager and in-flight things like ATC are nice.

This is pretty much everyone's first experience with the game. In fact it was my entire experience as I'm not very good with aimless sandbox type games.
Looks very nice but I only got 5 minutes earlier. Took off from my local airport, realised I didn't know which direction my house was, tried to do a corkscrew, span out and crashed. 10/10
Just had my first go. This was pretty much verbatim what happened to me. -

Registered 14 years agoThis update really did help with performance. On my measly RX480, I now get a stable 30fps with high details and on a resolution of 75% of 2560x1080 (1920x810). The in-game TAA is absurdly good so it looks almost like native res. I can even reach a pretty stable 60fps, but that requires low details.
The Series S should be fairly close to my GPU in power, so that explains why they were able to get it running in 1080p and 30fps. Perhaps not as good though, since settings on the Series S are definitely not on high, looks more like medium. -

Registered 13 years agoCouldn't even see my fucking house the plane was too fast. I imagine the experience playing with a stick is rather a lot better than playing with a controller, which I am finding to be a little frustrating, especially as I think I have some stick drift. -

Love the Icon. No idea why it seems to get so much hate online. Possibly because it was the flagship for the disaster that was Microsoft Flight, but that seems a little extreme.

Registered 16 years agoI showed this to my parents last summer. They got insanely paranoid because we did a flight over their place in Florida and it showed a car on their drive.
It took me a long time to explain sample-times and procedural generation and they still didn't believe me. -

You can tow it with a car and take it home to a big garage, whats not to like. -

Strange that a flight simulator game shouldn't be inverted by default though. -

Registered 15 years agoHad an absolute blast with this. Straight to New York as it's a city I absolutely love. I was able to easily pick out locations that I know, such as following the highline, spotted the Jane Hotel where I stayed one year, Belvedere Castle in central park. Then flew down to Coney Island and seen Nathan's where we went for hotdogs once. Absolutely loved that.
Then flew over my home in Belfast which was considerably less impressive. There's a vast difference between areas that have been built using maps and satellite and areas that seem to have been manually worked on, such as New York.
Next stop Vegas. Again, incredible. Seeing all the different spots that we've been to. Then to Blackpool which has received no love. Blackpool Tower doesn't even exist.
Finally, Yosemite Valley as a friend had asked me if you could go there (told him you can go anywhere).
Had a go at some tutorials, but will need more time to get into that. -

Anyway, stunning experience. Even flying over Sharston and Wythenshawe doesn't detract from the whole Audrey Hepburnness of proceedings. The Lakes from the air is sublime too. -

Registered 9 years agoI might have to check out New York and Vegas and see how they compare with London. That was more impressive than my hometown, detail-wise.
I did London yesterday and was impressed with myself when I flew through the gap in Tower Bridge. Slightly less impressed when I managed to go clean through the spokes of the London Eye... although it did crash 2 minutes later so maybe that was karma. -

Registered 17 years agoHad a quick blast on Series X last night and flew over various places I know.
Was surprised there is no way to speed up the passing of time for long flights. It would also be great to have a demo mode where you can just take in some fantastic scenery and vistas without actually having to play. -
