Registered 9 years agoLol, we're not supposed to be England, but I guess we can be for a day. -

Registered 9 years agoIt's ok, we just want to make it more exciting when we pull a win out of Smith's ass. Like a reverse match 3. -

Registered 9 years agoSo is anyone actually watching? I know it's a "dead rubber", but England are actually doing pretty well, and it's a rather good batting display at the moment. -

Registered 13 years agoo/ I don't quite see it as a dead rubber, though the Ashes are gone. Would rather draw the series than lose it. -

Registered 9 years agoSomeone on TMS helpfully pointed out that we hit way more boundaries than England this series. So we still win, even if it's tied.

This. I don't think the retaining of the Ashes is seen as much more than symbolic, really. I reckon the players are judged, and certainly judge themselves, on the series result.

Registered 14 years agoYarp. I think Australia want a clean win as much as England will fight for a draw. In history it will go down as a drawn series, there’s a big difference between that and a win/loss. -

Registered 17 years agoCan you call it a dead rubber? Australia would rather 'win' the ashes rather than retain them through a drawn series surely? Plus there's the whole test championship to think about now too.
Edit. Echo echo

Registered 9 years agoI'll be happy just to retain them, tbh. We haven't done even that in England since 2001. The final tally won't reflect this, but imo Australia have overall been the better team in 3 out of the 5 tests.
Hell, the second one would probably have gone very differently if Smith hadn't been hit.

Yeah, don't want to leave too much time for them but need to push on before the new ball. 5 sessions should be OK but the wicket is still flat.

I think we'd take two wins Down Under next time too
It's been decent entertainment this time but batting by both teams has been poor overall.
September is too late to be playing the last couple of Tests, too. -

Yeah, aside from obvious exceptions I don't think either side has reason to be particularly happy with their batting. Lots of one-day players, very few Test players.

I dunno about that, imitation Smith did a very good job as a replacement and I actually think it was a net gain for Australia from the concussion.

What do we reckon another 100 (to cover Smith) needed -
Smiths clone is even copying his catching now -

Registered 9 years agoApparently Smith has the flu. So there's another way to get him out before 100, just infect him with something. -

Hmmmm the way he made a few of those catches today, I am not sure I believe it 😂 -
There's got to be some dodgy lasagna lying around.
