Hi, I've convinced my folks to dump Sky and get freeview as they only watch the standard channels anyway. Can anyone recommend a freeview box that has record/pause/rewind etc (preferably nothing too complex) for < £100? Thanks |

Check if their tv supports it via usb, all of mine do -

Newer TVs have Freeview+ built in and are able to record to a connected USB device. Obviously you would have to check to see if theirs does or not. Also be aware that on my LG TV at least you can record to anything but you can only pause when using a HDD (ie not a flash stick) due to it needing to write and read simultaneously.
Thanks all

I have an 8 year old samsung in the bedroom that does it. Just plug a USB stick in and look for a record/pause button on the remote to test. -

Might need to be a fast usb stick. Mine refused to play with the ones I tested, so I plugged in an external hard drive and I record everything to that.

I'd agree with the Humax route. They've being doing boxes for years and mines still going strong . -

Registered 3 years agoYou have to pay Sky to be able to record. Its why the biggest rip off in their entire rip off model is when they try to charge you for replacing the box WHICH CAN ONLY ACCESS THEIR PREMIUM CONTENT AND REMAINS THEIR PROPERTY when it is out of 'warranty' -
An alternative might be a Humax Freesat box. Uses the existing dish.
