They are not there to send kids to war... they are there to announce Stephen's sausage roll 2. apparently it will be set on a nuclear sub in conjunction with the royal navy.

I hope their nuclear subs don't leak as bad as this news did.

    That's pretty fucked.

If I was a parent I'd be fucking livid they had recruitment team for the armed forces at a video game event.

They've been doing these at gaming conventions for a long time now. Usually trying to show off the tech and engineering aspect of the job. It's fucking weird.

I don't think it's appropriate for kids, a lot of whom will be unsupervised, to be having conversations with trained recruiters.

Especially as the military have spent millions developing marketing materials aimed at teens.

This is nothing new. I seem to recall seeing service men in attendance at EGX for years. I wouldn't mind if it was Master Chief touting for cannon fodder.

But playing CODMW isn't? Navy flys drones, someone has to control them.

(Having discussed this with an RAF recruiter recently, you still need perfect eyesight as they'll put you through a full pilots licence before you can drive a drone)

This is an event where there will be a lot of unsupervised children. Given 16 year olds can be signed up I really don't think it's appropriate for them to be targeted in what is supposed to be a safe environment.

I might try to join the Navy. And get quite aggressive when they tell me I'm too old.

Surely someone's going to go in a brown leather jacket and ask if anyone knows where to find sailors.

They can't sign up at 16 without parental consent.

I just feel a bit uncomfortable with unsupervised kids being sold on military careers by experienced recruiters in an environment that is supposed to be about video games and related products.

Bit confused about the lack of love for Navy recruitment. You need parental consent to sign up under 18, after that your an adult.

Being in the Navy is not a bad career choice. Speak to them or donít? Navy needs sailors, people need jobs.

I really wish I had talked to a recruiter when I was younger, wasn't till my mid 20s did I even consider the forces. And by then I had loans credit cards etc and my options were limited.

Not saying joining any force is perfect or that would have, but would have been nice for it to factor a bit more in my 16 year old plans for the future. Funny enough schools don't really sell the forces, they are more concerned with A-levels and university which was never going to suit everyone.

And woah is this going off track...yay games, looking forward to random switch announcements.

Do the Navy even see much action? Seems like they just sail about on those homoerotic boats for a bit. Maybe blow up the odd Somalian if they're lucky.
