Up with Bayonetta, Vanquish and Nier then? Can't wait - those are three of my favourite games of all time.

Austin Walker wasn’t too keen on it. Normally waypoint and EG reviews read quite similar so be interesting to see more !

I got a preorder deal from TGC where I got this and Fire Emblem for about £67. Shame I'm only about 15 hours into FE - something will have to give!

Don't think I'd ever use Vice to base my game purchases on

Seems to be the exception, all others seem glowing.

I thought it looked cool but didn't expect it be this high a standard.

@JamboWayOh i was only using it as a counterpoint but Austin Walker and Patrick Klepek are ex giantbomb and I generally trust their views.

Having said that, I am not blind and have seen all the other reviews which has me excited for the game.

    Also Vice games was waypoint

Fair enough. I'll have to put it on the pile. There are far too many games coming out between now and Christmas, it's actually quite ridiculous.

Day 1 for me, quite looking forward to it. I'm only buying one game a month these days and only focusing on Switch so am glad to see its reviewing well.

Also slightly surprised to see a review for a game a week before release, what with embargoes and such, quite a novelty!

    It's out on Friday man.

Re Waypoint: I love the podcast but haven't read the article. Leading up to their review one of Austin's biggest issues was the portrayal of the Police as heroes...

Christ. I think I heard the same complaint from Kotaku about the spiderman game. Politics is important, art is important, sometimes the two do not have to overlap.

Platinum could shit in a game case and some people would declare it the best game ever. Their stuff never really clicks with me which is weird as they make the sort of stuff that I should like.

I'm not saying this is bad by the way!

In fairness, the politics in games is waypoints/vice’s whole angle.

Reading the EG review, this bit stands out as to why it was less of a hit for Austin ‘Some might miss the philosophical, melancholic underpinning of Nier: Automata, though it's clear that Taura picked up Nier writer Yoko Taro's penchant for mixing things up. ’.

Though, that may be a bit reductive and he may have bigger issues (like pacing) but meh, I bought the game and will decide if I like it myself 😂.

Anyone seen any decent prices for digital pre-order? I saw that cd keys had it cheap (£41) but hesitated and missed the boat....

    Desperate to get this

That's such an excellent grift. I was saving a voucher for this but blew it on smash when I was bored a few weeks ago.

That's a good chunk of why I got it! (And, miraculously, I'm actually playing it *and* enjoying it. All hail handheld mode).

I'm definitely holding the spare for Pokémon this time...

The Bank Holiday has thrown me a bit, but still, quite often we won't see a review for a big release until the day it releases. I wasn't expecting a review of this until the end of the week.

The trailers for this were a bit too unclear for me to have risked pre ordering this but with it reviewing well I may have to look into it a bit more and consider getting it. Unfortunately it has come out at a time where there are other games I want more such as DQ XI S and perhaps AI Somnium Files.

Any idea how long the game takes to play through?

@THFourteen nintendo life video review suggested easily 20hrs, perhaps significantly longer depending on play style.
