Ok so youíre not going to catch fuck all. So have enough food for whole journey. That will be a lot (weight) any chance you could stash some and pick it up on your way round.
That is the kind of advice i was after - thanks.

This is something i hadn't considered, but stashing things in the mountain is a pretty great idea, and it might actually make the trip a little more fun as we'll have to remember where we put it and find it again. I will definitely suggest this.

The MREs have actually already arrived. My buddy bought them - but because they were cheaper than the regular kind, he went with Halal. They're still official army ones though.

There is a lot of tuna, various curry dishes, some steak. Some interesting-looking deserts too, including mango cake and blueberry turnover. Also biscuits, energy bars, powdered drinks.

Whether or not i get to use the hatchet, i'd just feel like more of an ultimate badass having one with me. The knife i will use for whittling souvenirs for all the people who doubted i could survive.

A very filthy sock at that.

I have no idea if youíre genuine rod but if you are and youíve never done this you need to build up really slow. Ten days in the Scottish winter would be nails for anyone.

Walk for a day to test your kit, then try an overnight, then try a few days. You could honestly die if you go to Scotland and things go bad.

The knife will be handy for cutting their way out the tent once the zip frosts over

The hatchet can be used to hammer off frost bitten toes. That can then be whittled into amusingly shaped souvenirs for work chums.

What happens if your gear gets damp?

You'll need to carry the fuel for your camp stove to heat your water and food.

Don't forget a trowel and loo paper. Don't shit near your water supply.

I hope there's a bothy nearby where you can shelter if the weather turns!

I'm not a sockpuppet. I don't post very regularly on the forum, but you can see i comment more regularly on articles.

Me and my friend are taking this seriously. We actually went on an 8 mile walk on Tuesday. Well, it was supposed to be an 8 mile walk but i had to amend the route to include a few newsagents of Chelmsford, as my local has stopped selling WWE slam attax cards, so it ended up being a 10 mile walk.

We've got five months and are planning on doing a big hike every week (except Christmas/New Year). Once we have the kit, we'll start walking while carrying that.

We also used to go to Greggs every day for lunch and get a cake or something, but now we just buy some crusty rolls, some ham or turkey, and some raspberries or blueberries.

    We're in training.

We'll see how much of a parody it is in February, when i post a picture of a man standing on top of a Scottish mountain, with a cigar in his mouth and a look of danger in his eye.

You'll know it's me, because my knife holster will be sewn to the handle of my backpack. If it's snowing, i'll write Eurogamer in the snow in the background.

In five months, some of you are going to feel pretty foolish.

The investigative ones among you could check this against the picture of my Transformers key in my previous thread, and tell that it's the same desk.

I just happen to like wrestling, okay. I get the cards because my five year old nephew gets them but doesn't have anyone to swap with.

Remember not to eat the yellow snow when you're done. No matter how dehydrated you are!

I do hope Scottish Mountain Rescue have an airlift blimp.

Although, it'd be too windy & misty for it in feb.

There's a Witcher III loading screen that basically says that. Maybe all that time spent playing video games really has prepared me for this.

Genuinely though, expect that picture by mid-February.

The captain of the moonraker is a pretty big deal to be honest. They'd probably send the rescue blimp.

Firstly, i may live in the culturally and historically significant city of Chelmsford, but i was born in Surrey thank you very much.

Secondly, next year maybe i'll write Kotaku in the Nairobi desert with palm trees.
