Fuck, totally got mixed up with the fixtures and missed this. Would have loved to have seen it!

It was truly a stunning Japanese performance, in defence just as much as in attack. Itís going to be exciting to see how far they can really go...

They need more opportunities to play top tier rugby, there needs to be a shake up in the fixtures to get them involved in a regular tournament

Trouble is, there's already fixture congestion in a sport that takes a physical toll on the players...
How would more internationals fit in?
I think in the autumn schedule, each of the home nations plays a tier 2 side. But we also want to see them play NZ/Aus/RSA..

With Japan beating South Africa and Ireland there are certainly going to be growing calls for the tri Nations to be expanded to five. Suppose they could mirror the six nations in some way. But yeah I guess there is going to be resistance at club level.

But If they want to grow the sport globally it is something they are going to have to look at because it will remain a passing interest for sides like Japan rather than a sport that can grow.

I think there is a case to definitely have relegation/promotion in the six nations. There is already an extensive international league system in Europe with multiple divisions but it stops before the six nations.

Edit: just reading they are considering introducing relegation in 2022

Great to see Wales looking this sharp.

Not sure I totally agree with that last penalty. Yes, he led with the forearm, but the tackling technique was awful. You tackle like that, you get hurt

That was the wrong call for sure, nothing wrong with the forearm there. Are you still allowed a hand in the face?

I thought that was off too. Not sure what else he could have done given how they tried to tackle him

Terrible technique, should be leading with the head.

The Hooper tackle was a definite pen though. Could even count himself lucky, the replays look pretty bad but they always look worse in slow mo

Definitely a game of two halves. I thought the Aussies were out of this.

Wales need to keep them pinned back

Well held out. Very evenly matched. Either team would give the winners (England?) of the other group a good game.

I don't follow a club, so on a purely personal level, cutting back the club fixtures for more internationals would be fine..

Scotland - Samoa not a thriller.

ETA: two tries since I posted. Now a bit more exciting.
