Ha, yeah I turned on at 3-0; 2 pretty decent tries followed quickly.

Now Scotland can afford to look for the BP. It could end up being crucial.

Hope they get it, it blows the pool wide open...could be an exciting couple of weeks, with perhaps Scotland needing a BP win against Japan to stay in...? who knows?

France-USA didn't feel like a game that should have ended 33-9. USA weren't actually good, but France were sloppy and only pulled their finger out in the last quarter of the match and things were quite close to an upset when they were at 12-9.

    Biggles is coming on!

Was reading about him earlier - his sight is deteriorating in his left eye, so he's allowed to wear goggles to protect them.

How did Beauden Barrett drop that ball? That's the biggest howler I think I've ever seen.

Ireland have the bonus point win they needed, but at times it feels like they made a bit of a meal of a 35-0 win, particularly the third quarter. Russia played harder than the scoreline would suggest as well.

This has been a tough game even though Argentina are a man down.

Ruins the game when a player gets sent off. Although that red card was deserved.

Definitely. Argentina with lots of handling errors but otherwise been very strong defensively.

England let the pace off a little in the second half, probably feeling comfortable they were already through, and I think Argentina would have punished them with a try considerably earlier if they were still 15 men.

It's not been Argentina's year though so I don't see it ending radically differently even without the red card, probably just a bit closer.

Some lovely stuff in Japan-Samoa. A bit scrappy with a lot of penalties conceded on both sides, but Japan's four tries were beauts and they showed a lot of awareness in defence as well.

Very entertaining match, and it's left Japan only needing a losers bonus point against Scotland to make the quarters.

Tonga giving the French a game. Typical French performance; great for 25 minutes and now poor.

Looks to me that the only way Scotland can get through is if either a)Samoa shock Ireland or b) We thump and get a bonus point against both Russia and Japan (and Japan don't get a loser's bonus point). That right?

I mean, nobody's making me watch it, but I'll be glad when the QFs begin. These one-sided pool matches are boring.

There's a chance of Saturday's matches - JP v Sco and Eng v Fra - being called off due to a SUPER TYPHOON.

Edit: the Express are not the source of this report.

Not actually true - well, not quite anyway.

If Scotland get a BP win v Russia (as we should on paper, but no guarantees) then we will be on 10 points, Japan on 14.

If we lose to Japan clearly that’s that, but if we win and finish level on points, we’ll go through on head-to-head.

For this to happen, either we need to deny Japan a losing bonus, or get a try bonus. If we get the try bonus (and win) then the losing bonus won’t be enough for Japan - they would need a try bonus as well.

Personally I think the most likely outcome is that Scotland will win, but Japan will get the LBP to qualify. Who knows though?
