Well... we wonder why people were so slow to turn on Hitler in the '30s. They thought he was good for business...

Well you're forgetting the big part is that Hitler was demonising certain people that more than a few countries couldn't give a fuck about.

    @Rogueywon

Yeah, hand wringing central on that one. But yeah I also agree the almighty dollar is very important.

For a moment I thought it was going to be that Final Fantasy 13 meme.

But really, have they? Maybe a couple of hundred will cancel their subs; maybe even a few thousand. But others? Doubt they'll care.

Too few people give a shit and China will continue to be allowed to behave like utter bastards as this planet is a cesspit of greedy, immoral scumbags who only care about money and power.

These boycotts never really work. I'm in no illusion that it could make a dent in their profits.

Rather, I'm kinda hoping that a lot of other players start making similar statements during livestreams and tournaments. Blizzard might ban a few people, but if it got out of hand, they would need to address the situation properly.

Their fans might not be impressed, but that giant Chinese multinational conglomerate who own 5% of them are probably okay with it.

Yeah a western boycott compared to a Chinese ban is no comparison at all. Even if some ludicrously high number like 25% of western users volunteraly boycotted Blizzard products is still below the 100% of Chinese users they'd lost in a government enforced ban China would impose.

Doesn't mean I have to like it though. I've enjoyed my years of Hearthstone but it's only a game and if I can't give it up because of this shit show what's the point in having personal values at all?

A more impactful response might be for players to saturate the game with messages that the CCCP wouldn't like. Something like: "We support the overthrow - by violent means if necessary - of the Chinese communist regime and support the independence of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Tibet".

If that catches on, China will drop the curtain on the entire game, having at least some domestic impact.

@Rogueywon Americans also like to forget that a lot of prominent USA politicians, businessmen and companies all backed the Nazi's in the 1930's.

I think a boycott is worth participating in, even if it doesn't "work". As a consumer, the dollar is the most powerful weapon you have, and withholding it is a lot more impactful than doing nothing at all.

Isn't this just like football where you aren't allowed to lift your shirt up and reveal political messages when celebrating a goal?

If anything, its the first time I've visited a hearthstone related sub or forum or thread in like 4 years. And the first thing that went through my head was "hmmmm wonder what the new cards are like"

Except you don't get banned for the season and have all your wages seized.

Actually, with all the Chinese owners and whatnot, it would be interesting to see what would happen if players started doing pro-hong kong go celebrations.

Maybe, but I imagine players doing that don't get banned for a year and their match fees withheld.

    EDIT: Jinx!

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzcon was cancelled or that access was severely restricted in some way.

A mobile phone card game tournament was the perfect stage to shout about whatever politcal alignment you current have. They should probably update their Terms and Conditions to allow this more often.
